Application: Nibui

A hollow has abducted the shinigami responsible for protecting Naruki City. Initially, the Tenth Division sent out a squad of reinforcements to retrieve their own. However, when this squad also disappeared, Captain Kagayaki had no choice but to call on the Eleventh Division for backup. Fortunately, one of the missing shinigami was able to send a Jigokuchō (地獄蝶, ”Hell Butterfly”) back through to the Soul Society containing a message.
“Five Held hostage. Arrancar. Kills on Sight.”
Due to the delicate nature of the situation, the Eleventh division cannot send a squadron of Shinigami. They must ensure that the Arrancar does not see them coming and kill the hostages in response. Therefore, the Captains Council has decided to send a single powerful Shinigami in place of a squad. With that, Nibui was chosen to move through the Senkaimon into the human world, his mission clear, rescue the hostages without casualty.
There is an arrancar, hiding a group of shinigami hostages beneath a school of humans. Though the extent of its abilities are unknown, two things are for certain. First, it has displayed an uncanny sensing ability, able to spot an enemy coming at the slightest flicker of Reiatsu. Second, it has implanted some sort of organic device into the hostages, allowing him to instantly stop their hearts on command. It is up to Nibui to respond to the crisis at hand.

In all honesty, this was not the kind of mission he was expecting to be set on when he was called on and specifically picked for such an urgent task. The details of the mission given to him simply screamed to be given to a member of the Second Division, this was their area of expertise after all, infiltrating and dealing with a target in a timely manner whilst being undetected. Of all people, Nibui was likely the least suited for such as task, regardless, there was a job to do and with it entrusted to him. A little bit of creativity would have to go a long way. The location and situation at hand were fairly clear, so there would be no issue in finding the site of the mission, the abilities possessed by the Arrancar on the other hand were still mostly a mystery with the exceptions of the two notes on the sensory ability it possessed and it’s method of execution it had already implanted and prepared. The only conditions were no casualties, Humans or Shinigami and the execution of the Arrancar. Equipped with nothing but his usual attire and his Zanpakuto, this mission would be completely on his shoulders, relying on no one else and nothing else.
With the Senkaimon’s sliding paper doors opening to the Human world, a momentary pause in Nibui’s steps would occur as he allowed his eyes to adjust to the difference in brightness. Once his eyes opened to the outside world, the charcoal hues of his would glance over the immediate vicinity, taking in what he could. Midday, the only thing littering the skies were the occasional wisps that could barely be called clouds, a pleasant sight, but this was not so ideal for Nibui in this mission, at this time of day and in a public and packed environment, he would need to take great caution with the collateral damage inflicted by either party. Through his mind had run a few thoughts about how he would possibly tackle this mission as efficiently as possible and every so often, he’d make an internal comment, regretting a choice he could never have made to begin with, the lack of any real form of sensory. Such a skill would have made this endeavour and many others a great deal easier to traverse and complete. Regardless, the job at hand was what was truly important. As was the custom for those of notable strength, once a Shinigami stepped out into the human world, they had a seal placed on them which would limit them to 20% of their strength, Nibui having already been heavily limited would only be further weighed down. He couldn’t help but think that perhaps he wouldn’t be able to complete the mission ahead of him. The extra restrictions to his strength would surely hinder him he thought.
Just before him was the Human school that had been mentioned in the debriefing, in order to successfully pull of this mission, which was far out of the specialization of his skillset, he would need to adhere to what he had learned previously and adapt as the situation changed. In reality, stealth would not be an option, instead he would need to find a way to dispatch of the enemy without allowing them even a moment to process the information. It wasn’t long before Nibui had found himself within the actual structure of the school and respectively on his way to the area below the school. On his path towards his destination, he had contemplated a few methods of dealing with the threat but there was very little he could do that wouldn’t cause the Arrancar to set off whatever it had set within it’s hostages. The layout of the construction below the school was simple, a corridor that lead toward a mostly vacant room containing but a few tools and materials strewn about, just your regular run of the mill equipment for general maintenance of the building and the school grounds. This room wasn’t huge, but it was respectably sized, a square shaped room, ten meters by ten meters. Within, what could be seen immediately if one was to step into the room was the group of hostage Shinigami, their condition was as is to be expected, beaten and broken and considering the information about what had been implanted within the Hostages, they were quite literally on death’s door.
There was but a few steps between Nibui and the entrance of said room, since the beginning of this mission, he had worried he would leave with nothing but corpses in hand. This was no more time to worry though, it was instead time to act. His presence was one thing he couldn’t hide, no matter how he would struggle or attempt to conceal his Reiryoku, it would always be present, escaping his body. A stealthy approach was no option. Another step closer. Perhaps a ranged approach? Highly unlikely, any method of long distance combat he could implement would always carry a devastating collateral. Even with his Reiatsu and being able to control who is affected and how severely, there was absolutely no chance that the environment around him would hold up to the punishment, and considering where they were situated, this was simply not acceptable. Once again, a step closer. For Nibui, any form of Kido was out of the question automatically, though it would admittedly be quite the advantage in such a situation. With a step, the decision was made and an almost tangible exhale escaped past Nibui’s lips. Behind a hostage situation, there is always a desire, otherwise they would have simply executed those being held, he had hoped that the Arrancar would show itself and from there, he could act accordingly. He was in an unknown environment against a mostly unknown enemy, all whilst being limited quite heavily, in his head, this was a rather difficult predicament, perhaps too much of a task, but he had a job to do.
With but a few certainties about his current task, he was feeling rather unprepared. Despite all the doubt that plagued him however, he was in a certain state of calm, his hand resting on the hilt of his blade, the anchor to his composure. With his blade being almost equal in height to him, it was only logical to have carry it on his back, held against his body at an angle by a crimson sash that he wore around his torso, this sash held the basic black sheath that housed his Zanpakuto. His right hand held a delicate grip on the very center of the hilt and was completely motionless, not a muscle twitch or involuntary movement of any kind. Every time he wielded the weapon, there was a calm that would come over him, but simultaneously, as time went on he grew uneasy as something whispered to him. That last step had placed him into the room and upon seeing the five Shinigami, it brought a subtle but genuine smile to his lips and eyes, surely this expression was out of place but he couldn’t help it, As for the Arrancar, he had yet to make notice of their positioning. Lacking any real form of advanced sensory, he would have to rely on his basic 5 senses. It was true that the approach taken was a gamble for him but there wasn’t much else he could do in such a situation, his hope was a simple one. He had hoped the Arrancar would take the rather unimpressive appearance and impression the Shinigami would naturally give off and attempt to take him as another hostage. This would be the optimal result and one of few that would allow the mission to be completed without any issues.
"I'm happy to see you lot still alive!"
These were the only words he could think of to say to the group of Shinigami being held hostage, and in all honesty, the moment he had spoken, he had begun to regret it, had he just embarrassed himself before even doing anything?

The Captains have reviewed your scenario and reached their verdict...
5bff1bb73bfcdc80eac5959bbfa7aa58.png

Congratulations Nibui! You advance to the next round!

Your post has demonstrated enough of your roleplay ability to advance you to the second portion of the Captaincy Application. As of now, you are to advance to the combat portion of the test. Report to the Valley of screams by clicking the portal below.

There you will begin the first post against your opponent Captain Kyomu Mukuro. This fight will take place in-character, and be canon to the group’s overall story. This means any actions you take may potentially have in-story consequences. Should you fail, it will be common knowledge that Nibui attempted and failed to become a Captain. There will be no time limit, but the amount of time you take between posts may factor into the Captain Council’s final evaluation. It is encouraged for you to showcase the majority of your abilities, including Bankai. That said, you are free to use any means, and take any action, you deem necessary. The fight can be stopped at any point, but is permitted to continue up until the brink of death of either party.
Let's see some fighting spirit!

Application: Arashi Suta

a940aab6911e21ce523be6441ea8bad8.png

The alarms began to blare, loud enough to be heard well on the other side of the Seireitei. Hollows were appearing by the droves in Karakura Town. First in twos, that pair turned to six, and that six to twelve, making an even dozen. From what could be seen the Hollows were spread out, and it was believed that more were still to come. Was there someone in the world of the living that was using Hollow Bait (好餌 虚 (ホロウ こうじ), horō kōji)? The Quincy perhaps? No, they were still recovering from the war even now. They were in no position to bait the Soul Society in such a manner, it wasn’t their M.O. Regardless, something needed to be done.
Arashi Suta was summoned forth. As a member of the Thirteenth Division, Karakura Town fell underneath his jurisdiction. Out of all its members he was deemed the most reliable for this task. Quickly debriefed, the young shinigami was sent on his way, there was no time for delay.
Upon passing through the Senkaimon, it becomes evident. The reiatsu of various Hollows scattered about in five separate areas within the town, the screams of humans under attack fill the air with terror. Arashi Suta, already restrained by the Gentei Reīn (限定霊印, Soul-Limiting Symbol; Viz "Spirit Restriction Seal"), would immediately notice further restraints imposed upon his spiritual power, one..two...three...four...five times as much. Unbeknownst to him the connection between both he and his zanpakuto becomes hazed, his voice distorted, inaudible to the spirit residing within the sword. The source is faint, nigh undetectable, but still there, within the same vicinity of the hollow attacks. Bone colored cylindrical constructs stored beneath buildings occupied by unaware humans. Destroying the strange cylinders producing the odd spiritual frequency lightens the restraints imposed upon him, though not without a price. With their destruction comes a blast, equivalent to an Adjuchas’s cero. Time is of the essence, the number of Hollows continue to grow. It’s up to Arashi to ensure the safety of the humans within Karakura Town, and just maybe...locate the orchestrator of this mayhem.

A stroll through the early morning is always nice... Not many people were around or at least with in his vicinity at the moment. Being only close to six in the morning it is easy to guess that he carried a cup of tea in both hands, cupping the bottom of it carefully. Though the beverage was made hot, his tolerance for pain allowed him to hold the cut with easily no reaction! Though both the palms of his hands were noticeably red. A regular cup of tea, which was perfect for this time of the day. First and foremost, it woke him the hell up! Easily keeping him alert the more he took sips from it. The smell drawing into his nose naturally. Accepting such an aroma is not something he would normally pass up! Arashi expected a busy day, as the five foot seven male traveled with light steps and a calm demeanor as always. Already dressed for whatever may come, he wore his long sleeve black Shihakusho, with a thin white Shihakusho underneath. For bottoms, the traditional Hakama and upon his feet wooden clogs that exposed his feet. Around his waist a white obi-sash tied in the way of a square-knot in the front! Between the sash and his Hakama is his Zanpakuto that he always carried on his left hip whenever he left his Quarters. A 27 inch silver steel sword, curved to the tip, incredibly sharp to the edge! The guard made to be circular out of a strong material colored in gold with no visible designs along the surface. The blade is hidden beneath a black steel scabbard, coiled with a tattered and torn brown cloth. The handle wrapped fashionably and with a secure cord wrap that his black finger less glove with a small metal plate upon the back of it fit his hands that could grip black cord-wrap around the handle quite easily! To him, he never traveled without her, his trusted comrade as well as friend. Though he could always count on others with in his Squad, but she, Hoshizora stood tall among comrades. There is no one in this world, realm, or even the universe that can compare!
The genuinely smiling Arashi wasn't able to finish his tea. The alarms blaring loudly which easily woke up every member with in his barracks and like every other barracks. Prepared to the teeth, Arashi had vanished leaving behind a short but quick flash of light in his wake. Exiting his Shunpo at his Quarters easily entering and then exiting in haste! His concealing coat left upon the desk and his cup of tea! As quick as the alarms turned on, Arashi is requested specifically. Heading to the location, moving as seemingly a mass of light, flashing from one point to the next. His Shunpo covering a great deal of the distance it took to get to the designated location and quickly he approached an official that controlled the Senkaimon to the World of the Living. The older male had obviously never seen Arashi before and in fact he was startled by how fast he arrived and the sudden arrival. Getting a good look at the young lad, Arashi's midnight blue eyes held a tremendous amount of spiritual power. Clearly, the elderly man could see this easily, but there was no time to admire the young man before him! Arashi is quickly debriefed! "I see, thank you." His constant and genuine smile, calmed the old man's soul, easily assuring him that everything will be taken care of...
Hollows were never a problem for Arashi to deal with in his many expeditions through the Soul Society, but he was no fool to underestimate the danger that each Hollow had to give. Their animistic tendencies and primal instincts, Arashi could not afford to drop his guard or show any kind of sympathy for the creatures. Though, Arashi always had a gentle nature, and a few times it almost cost him his life. If he had learned from his past mistakes then this mission will surely show it. The Senkaimon opened and with little hesitation, Arashi stepped through. To the other side, his visits to the World of the Living were always pleasant, despite the circumstances. His smile never faded, his eyes remained close, but only slightly. He could still see fine, as if they were open in full! His left hand rests upon the handle of Hoshizora, his right hand moved up to remove a strand of his jet black hair from his face that naturally brightened into a blonde color near the bottom. He cupped his chin with his right hand, scratching the small black bush upon his chin and then proceeded to rub the 5O’clock shadow that covered his cheeks and jawline. Easily, Arashi looked to be in his 20s. His feet instantly created an invisible platform beneath. The Senkaimon closed immediately, leaving him with just his communicator to report back to the Seireitei. A lone soldier and though it did not bother him, he honestly expected himself to be either with a team or leading one… Either, they figured Arashi was enough or they did not have time to call anyone else from Squad 13 or any other Squad for that matter. The skies were clear, but not the Town of Karakura unfortunately. From such a great distance, he could sense as well as hear the presence of Hollows. ”Five different locations… Two, five, no, a dozen. This is unsettling.” Even more unsettling, is the further restrictions he felt on his spiritual pressure. It was more than just the Gentei Rein! Something else is at work here and it wasn’t just the Hollows, Arashi is sure of this. There was know time to sit here and survey, lives were at stake and Arashi took to action! With in the action of moving towards the location of interest, his eyes open just a bit. With just a glimpse he could see two Hollows occupying the space of a small playground, a few yards away from a school building…
”HELP! HELP ME PLEASE.” The voice of a small boy screamed and wailed with tears staining his cheeks! His eyes were pinkish from shedding so much tears. He could barely stand and run as an eight legged creature chased the poor boy at frightening speeds… The creature is black with a heavy set of scales to reinforce its legs and hide on its back, however, the underbelly is exposed with sacks hanging from it as well. The mask of the Hollow is contorted and twisted with no eyes seen, but a mouth shaped like an oval with teeth that constantly rotated like a saw. Its over all size was eight feet and easily two car lengths at best. The other Hollow, lands behind the boy and in result stops the boy from crawling to any place of safety he had thought was nearby. The creature stood up tall like a human, a towering ten feet! Muscular, but lean which exudes great physical capabilities. This creature had no face, but a mask with red piercing eyes, no mouth to eat with seemingly at first. Horns protruded from the top of the mask, tipped in black. The boy’s face was dumbfounded, frozen in place, stricken with intense fear! There was nowhere left to run, no place to hide, no place to cry, no better place to die... Then again, the boy is simply a spirit, but for him, it was like dying all over again. All he saw was his mother watching him getting hit by that truck, feeling his body fly through the air and smacking into the side of a wall. The last thing he heard, is the screams of his mother, and then nothing… The eight legged Hollow approached, the ten foot tall hollow clenched it’s fist, raising it! The Hollow’s fist rushed with the wind coiling around its fist! The eight legged spider lunged unbeknownst to the other hollow, attempting to slam its opened mouth and rotating teeth upon the poor soul. Before anything, the eight legged Hollow found its head being caved in, the mask shattering due to the strength the ten foot Hollow had. Though missing the poor boy somehow, the Hollow ended up getting itself killed by the other… A shame, but very fortunate for Arashi, who undoubtedly saved the boy. Before the lone muscular Hollow could register what happen as a screen of smoke concealed the scene, allowing for the eight legged Hollow to dissipate into nothing, vanishing from existence. Arashi’s smile soothed the poor boy, shielding him with body, just 12 feet away. His hand upon his his head as he pulled the boy in to embrace him.
This act of heroism, brought him back to his past… Arashi being saved once before by a Shinigami from the jaws of a Hollow. Arashi performed Konso, pressing the top of his Zanpakuto against the forehead of the small child, allowing for his soul to pass on. ”Rest easy. The Soul Society will guide you.” Arashi, stood up, turning around to face the remaining Hollow. ”Evidently there is no way to reason with you, but I am not killing you without a purpose. The life of a boy was almost lost. I can not let you live, sorry,” Arashi smiled, while his eyes began to close more from the slight opening it had earlier. Though the smile seemed innocent, his presence alone exuded much intent to completely and swiftly vanquish his foe. As the smoke cleared, revealing a crater that shook the environment, easily causing a power outage to the school! The creature turned towards the building, completely ignoring Arashi, its mind set on one thing, the many souls it could devour and obviously, Arashi’s spiritual pressure did not peak its interest. ”Hoshizora, can you hear me,” he called out to his Zanpakuto spirit. No response and quickly, he found out that his connection to his Zanpakuto was somehow weakened?! This surely had him internally very surprised, but his expression remained all the same, a small and barely open eye-lids! Even with his spiritual pressure being restricted beyond the natural Gentei Rein, he could not stand by and allow this creature to proceed with its attacks. There were still other places he needed to get to and fast!
Arashi moved with a Shunpo, intercepting the path of the Hollow, but the Hollow’s instinctive nature allowed for it to react without hesitation as if its body was reacting on it’s own. A kick moved towards the exact location where Arashi would exit his Shunpo! He responded responsively, drawing his Zanpakuto in the blink of an eye, moving the blade towards the front of his body, using his other hand to reinforce the block by pressing it against the back of the blade. The force was great and highly unexpected! The blow sent Arashi with much force, but he is able to recover as his feet skids across the ground. The edge of the blade left a wound against the foot of the Hollow which seemed to stop the thing in mid-step. Holding its foot out, the Hollow tilted its head to the side before a singular ripped across the part of his face where a line would be. Its mouth opened, letting out a horrid howl! Arashi, kept his sword in his right hand, glancing towards the blade, still wondering why he could barely even feel a connection to his Zanpakuto spirit! For the first time, in a long time, Arashi felt, alone… By himself, but he knew he could not let this steer him away from his role as a Shinigami, this is the life he has chosen. He did not come this far, only to even consider… NO! Arashi turned his head a bit to the side, glancing back towards the school building. There is something, something that is releasing a strange amount of spiritual pressure… Could it be that? Arashi could not worry about it now, the Hollows, the Civilians of the Karakura Town needed him. They came first, their safety and his comrades. He could figure out the rest later, but with these restrictions, he knew it was going to take a long time… ”A busy day indeed,” he said despite his odds. A smile remained, as if he knew everything was going to eventually find its way to peace, even if it took him, hours, days, weeks. Time he did not have, obviously, but his determination, surely showed as he started walking towards the Hollow with the solid bit of spiritual pressure that he had. His body permeating a golden glow that outlined his body before expanding into a circle around his form. Around the rim of this circle, a flame matching the color of his Reiatsu, flows around it.
