Signy only needed but a moment to get her bearings once her and Atsuko had arrived. She stepped away from the Lieutenant as she surveyed their surroundings. Certain now that Atsuko fully understood that Shori wouldn’t be returning for the foreseeable future, Signy didn’t bother with putting on an act anymore. ”What squalor these people live in.” She knew full well that her family had originated in not the greatest of districts in the Rukongai but she never had to witness the desolation these people dwelled in.
Signy’s body tensed up in response as Atsuko began to pool her reiatsu around her feet only then to coil it around herself to mask her presence. As she turned back to Atsuko, Sanyu arrived, shaking only the slightest amount, but it was just enough for her to pick up on. A slight smirk spread across her face. Oh boy! Bad news! She listened intently as Sanyu spoke.
"The bird I sent to look over Kuroari has r-returned. It might have found our captain, and, it can lead us to him, when… when you are ready."
Signy didn’t even wait for Atsuko to decide for them to leave or not, as soon as Sanyu sent the origami bird out to guide them, she took off. She was giddy with glee at the thought of finding the captain deceased. She hadn’t had the relationship with him that the other’s had. After being betrayed by her mother at a young age, she put little trust in people who attempted to portray and image of being a parental figure. Her eyes locked onto the origami bird as it flapped through the air, following directly behind it.
It’s dangerous here, Signy. Something killed a captain, are you certain we should be rushing in like this without the others?!
The panic in Shori’s voice only heightened her sense of glee at the situation. Besides, she was certain that despite taking a head start, Atsuko would still beat her there.

Upon arriving at the scene, her eyes flicked up to the blinking bird for only a second before glancing over the wreckage before her. She tentatively stepped over bits of ruin as she surveyed the ground as she moved until she found the slightest glimpse of white amongst the mud and soot. Crouching beside the bushes the body was hidden in, she pushed the brush aside until she could see the full haori. As she stared down at the lifeless body of Captain Itsuki Asakura, every ounce of glee that had churning within her only moments early dissipated. Though she felt little for the captain, she did feel pain knowing that this would shatter Atsuko and Sanyu emotionally.
Most knew that Signy's mother was spirit born, but not many are aware her father wasn’t, and as she grew, he’d taught her words and phrases from his native language.
”Vertu blessaður, Skipstjóri.” (“Goodbye, Captain”)
Though the captain had half a foot on her in height and at least 65 pounds in weight on her, Signy gently scooped his body up in her arms. It was time to return him to the Seireitei. He’d been gone long enough.

"Ahhh… no biggie. Alright. Less formal I shall be... "
She can't help but smile at Katsuo's slight fidgeting. It's obvious formalities and such were drilled into the boy in his youth, making it difficult for him to speak casually before her. Perhaps it is even her fugitive state that causes his apprehension, as his very own branch of the family lay in exile for years, and now it was she that put her own family's prestige on the line. As he continues speaking, she listens, engaging and nodding as he even goes as far as complimenting her mothering, something she was uncertain of, but would tell no one. Yes, she had the expertise of those that came before her, her own mother, grandmother, and even great grandmother, but not a single one of them faced the challenges she did, nor the ones she is soon to face.
Briefly lost in her thoughts, she joins Katsuo in his momentary silence, it isn't until he makes mention of his very own mother that the Oki woman snaps back into the conversation. Mom? Ten'yuu... How long has it been since she has seen her aunt? As sharp as her mind is, she can't seem to remember, only short flashes of her, her final memory of her, seeing the woman walk away from the compound, for the sake of her future family. Something Honoka is now all too familiar with. Though she does not share in the joys of having a partner, now she does have a life that depends on her; one that she will do anything for their sake.
"Well… I better get back to work, Honoka. You take care of yourself. Don't be afraid to hit me up if ya need anything, ya know. Seeya, hope he enjoys them sick beats."

"How much longer do you think that you can protect him, truly?"
Honoka's raised arm slowly lowers after she finishes waving farewell to Katsuo, and while her smiling expression does not change, it is clear her temperament does, especially to those closer in proximity to her. Firstly a genuine smile bidding goodbye to her visitor, now it hides the thoughts that run through her head at light speed. Hundreds if not thousands of doubts and insecurities for Masahiro, herself, and the Oki Clan as a whole. There was no doubt that she was strong herself, having become lieutenant not only in Second Division, but also eventually Head Lieutenant many years later, coming to serve under the Head Commander, turned criminal, turned father.

The woman's ire is sudden to those before her. A sight Masahiro, in his short life has never witnessed, nor Haruki. Her eyes shine red with her reiatsu, alerted to intruders, not by their setting foot on the ground, but coming in contact with the large wooden gates that surround the entire Oki compound, that share a connection with the woman, whom despite her absence from the Gotei Thirteen, has not lived in peace for the entirety of her impromptu vacation. Living every single day watching over her shoulder, eyeing every nook and cranny, every shadow, wondering if there was someone there she could not perceive. Inadvertedly sharpening her already frightening sensing capabilities.
"Honoka-"
It is then, that the contents of the pot left on the flaming stove bursts from the kitchen, turning into a thick haze that fills the sky in a cloud of smoke, shielding those on the ground from the surrounding Omnitsukido. Scentless, but visibly tinted green, those slow to react fall from their platforms or support, paralyzed, but still conscious. As mere contact with traces of this newly brewed poison is enough to dampen the touch receptors, blocking signals from the brain to the body, preventing movement, and thusly preventing the activation of spells or zanpakuto against them. Those faster on their toes are able to retreat further back, as the woman has yet to move from her location with killing intent.
The voice is strangely familiar. Someone she once knew, she once taught little pleasures of being... alive. Trinkets and treats, things he never knew, things he was deprived of in his infancy and early childhood. Now seemingly stands before her and Akarui. In the distance from them, the children have ceased their playing, frightened by the sheer silent rage exuded from the ever calm Honoka. The surrounding Oki, in a frantic scramble, all seek to move indoors, away from the newfound commotion at the entrance, dragging the boys to what they believed was safety.
"You and the child will return with m-"
"No."

Honoka has no intention of letting the boy set foot outside of the compound. Not now, not yet. He is young, inexperienced. He ides not know the ways of the shinigami, nor the ways of death. Ways the three adults standing in the center of the entrance are more than comfortable with. In the boy's first century of life all she has instilled in him is the value of life, kindness, mercy, and compassion. Ideals that have little to no place in the Gotei Thirteen. While those deceased turn up in the Rukongai and are quick to learn of the hardships of life, Masahiro has lived happily at the Oki compound, ignorant to the ways of the world outside of the walls that contained his entire world. His only real lessons with his mother consisting of plants and their properties, as well as the concealment and sensing of reiryoku. He had much to learn, but placing her child in the grasp of the military and it's overseeing council was completely out of the question for the woman.
Her anger continues to seep through, but as long as the Captain of Second Division does not actively threaten her son's life, she will remain still, but ready. Yet his stalemate cannot continue much longer, as the surrounding plant life slowly begins to warp around them, growing prickly, jagged, and even toxic to the touch. This causes several Oki within the compound to lose consciousness within their own homes, while others become injured or pinned underneath their own plants, harboring resentment against Honoka, for her inability to still her sentiments. The one thing that occasionally manages to slip from her control; the effects her emotions have on the surrounding plant life.
"Honoka, that's enough."
ac1a848eb359dfd2286be6e0e1952194.png

"Not only have you disgraced us once by abandoning your post, but you continue to do so by putting the entire clan in jeopardy."
A double entendre, as she does this not only by allowing her rage to run rampant and twist the surrounding plant life at the expense of her family, but also by opposing the escort sent to retrieve her. The voice is one unheard of by anyone outside the clan for millennia, as it belongs to the previous matriarch of the Oki Clan, Kazue Oki, who slowly steps out from the main house after noting the abrupt changes to the plants in her home. She holds no fear to the three powerhouses outside, and approaches her eldest granddaughter fearlessly, despite her own age and frailty, she seeks to speak sense into the woman to prevent any further injuries or damage the reputation of the Oki.
The elderly woman turns to the apparition before them and gives a slight bow, although apologetic in nature, due to her granddaughter's selfishness, Kazue is unable to bow deeply in her old age, but her sentiment is true. Her hand lightly rests on Honoka's forearm, prompting the woman to look beyond the faux Captain before her, at the state of the greenery surrounding them. The rogue sighs, returning everything to its original state. The elderly woman now continues in a hushed tone, so as to no be overheard by anyone beyond who she intends to hear her words.
"Masahiro... he is safe here, still unbeknownst to the world, lest a close few. Taking him now will put him in the clutches of those who seek to turn him to his father, if not worse. She will go without a fight, I only ask that he remain here. Perhaps a few of your subordinates can remain and ensure his location?"
The grandmother turns to Honoka, slightly opening a single eye and glaring at the tall woman. Honoka had no intentions of explaining herself to anyone, but with the retired matriarch's interference, she is forced between a rock and a hard place. She inhales deeply, not wishing to further damage the clan's reputation, nor physically injure anyone around her. She knows fighting here will only cause numerous casualties, not only to her family, but the surrounding area as well. She closes her eyes briefly, reining herself in. Still she remains on edge, watching from every possible angle, waiting for him to strike. Her arms slowly raise, presenting herself to the Captain to be escorted away from her home. She doesn't say a single word, simply masking her thoughts and intentions behind her trademark smile. She grits her teeth, her tongue anxiously moving from side to side in her mouth as she is left to wait for his response.

Well informed, the gatekeeper was aware of both who she was and her mission. After having given her name and purpose he began to allow her through, giving her time to ready herself. Taking her Denreishiki from her pocket she began recording. Tucking it into her sash, camera facing forward. It seemed a better way to catch video of the situation without directly shoving it in people's faces. Not all had the best view of Shinigami and such behavior would certainly not make them the most cooperative with her.
Able to feel the many spiritual pressures beyond, citizen and shinigami alike, she stepped forward. Moving deeper into the district she became all the more confused, matching what appeared on the faces of those all around her. She continued forward until she was able to see what appeared to be the detainment and possible arrests of two she did not recognize. One was easy to determine from the badge upon his arm, marking him as the Lieutenant of Squad Thirteen. Her surprise at the scene unfolding before her passed, fear replacing it. Those filling the area were of the Onmitsukido. With all that was happening it didn't seem too unlikely that he would be there as well.
When last faced with the man she had been in a place where she longed for death. Though shocked by the events she had not attempted to fight him nor did she truly fear what she had believed would happen to her. A hundred years had changed her. Her perspective, her wants. Facing him then was much different than facing him now. The will to live ran through her once more. To become better. Grow stronger. She had spent many years wondering why he had released her. Pity? Anger? Did he believe it a more fitting punishment to allow her to continue living in the awful state she was? Or was he punishing himself for allowing one such as her to be in his squad for as long as she had been?
Eventually she had given up on trying to determine the reason. There was no way for her to possibly understand. And without such insight she lacked any in how he would behave if he saw her once more. He had let her live. She was obviously going to continue work and moving about the Seireitei. They would find each other again at some point. Having kept her word she never went near the barracks of Second again. But everything that was happening now was being spearheaded by Second. Would this be seen as interfering in one of their missions? Would that enough be punishable?
Clenching her fists she found her resolve. Steadied herself. The same as the men surrounding the area she was there on her own mission from her own squad. They would find no interference from her, simply watching the events that would unfold. Swallowing her fear she began to move about the bystanders. Camera panning about as she moved carefully, being sure to capture the movements of the Onmitsukido as she began to ask questions. Perhaps due to fear they cared little about who they told their tales to, or it simply made them happy to see such things happening to shinigami. Regardless most were willing to speak with her.
Unfortunately they had little to say. It would have been impossible for them to truly understand what they were seeing when the Onmitsukido moved in until they were standing before them as they were now. All they saw was darkness moving about them. A little thing they thought little of at first. A cloud passing over, a flock of birds. None knew. They had surrounded what turned out to both be members of Thirteenth from the way she had spoken to the Lieutenant. It appeared the woman was simply being questioned while the man was in far more trouble. The reasons why had not been stated, or at least not loud enough to be heard.
It was a decent amount of information, quick notes jotted down of what seemed the most important. In the mean time she would wait as the situation continued to unfold. This was certainly not the only reason for their arrival. Such a sizeable force seemed to be overkill just for the two of them, both of whom seemed to be cooperating for now. There had to be more going on than what she could currently see, leaving her to the decision of waiting. She would be unable to leave until all was said and done and she had the unsettling feeling something much larger was happening here than what could be seen.

The air is thick with tension, and neither of the two move outside of the wave of farewell to the Lieutenant of Thirteenth. The smile she has always worn stays unmoving like a mask. Akarui bides her time, waiting for something from her before things truly became a show for bystanders. Fingers twitching, Akarui drowned in the bloodlust that oozed from the Oki Matriarch. While it was not all intended on her, she is answered gravely and the ominous red glow that begins to lick at the woman’s feet tells of something sinister that many would fall victim to before they could register anything else that happened.
“As long as I need to.”
There are many in which surround them, garbed in darkness and careful of their footing, possibly knowledgeable of the last instance in which their prior affiliates had with the former Head Lieutenant in the past from He who led the charge. A time once filled with joy now holds nothing but dread and impending doom. The two boys cower beside one another, both at the sight of Honoka’s silent temperament and the sight of the Onmitsukidō poised, ready to strike at a moment’s notice. Masahiro clutches the ball in his hand and Haruki curls his arms up and around his chest, panic overwhelmingly beginning to bring the both of them to tears. Masahiro is unable to mutter a word and yet it was Haruki that managed to whimper out a cry for his mother.
Illustration1353.png

“O…Okā-san...”
The sound of her son’s trembling voice had triggered something and Akarui could feel the veins beginning to form and the muscles around her jaw tighten as her teeth clenched. She doesn’t know where to direct this feeling of malice that begins to brew inside of her. This event that was unfolding before her was something she had expected, yet why was it that she suddenly felt so helpless in the presence of the boy? Emerald orbs flicker over to the Oki woman and then back at her child, slowly beginning to radiate a gentle and ominous green glow. Looking further into the situation, Akarui had no reason to make a move as of yet. Neither party had moved a centimeter otherwise since arriving, but nonetheless, all were on their guard.
Illustration1352.png

“Haruki…”
Not long enough after the arrival of the force, came the Corps Commander himself uttering the name of the woman beside her and then came the plumes of translucent green smoke billowed along the grounds of the compound. Oki bystanders rushed to the children and it was only then that she could feel a moment of relief that her child would not get caught in the heat that was creeping up by the second. Akarui sees this yet makes no attempt to remove herself. The poison fanatic has gained an ultimate immunity to gaseous and liquid properties. The familiarity with the former Head Lieutenant’s fascination and concoctions is numb to her. The Phantom casts a momentary glance in her direction and the Shinigami woman only stares back. It was clear that he was unaware of her exact reason for being at this place, so his orders had clearly come from elsewhere. The bell had finally rung for Honoka, and she was ready to fight.
The Mukuro demands for her and the child to be taken to the Seireitei but Honoka is quick to deny him. While she does not actively make a move the wildlife around her does, reacting rather negatively and Akarui looks around for the children when a voice halts everything and she comes to face this elderly being that bears garments made to symbolize nobility. The former Matriarch makes her presence known and urges for the fugitive to reign in her emotions and only begrudgingly does as she was asked to not further shame her household and prove even further defiance against the Captain and his orders. Akarui releases a breath that she didn’t know that she was holding and places a hand on her hip at the sight of Honoka raising her arms in surrender.
The elder makes her request for Honoka’s arrest that they would relinquish the child to be held here and the compound out of the safety of Masahiro. Akarui has no place to exchange any words. For the time being, she is suspected to have been harboring the hellish secret that is the product of Honoka Oki and Shobatsu Murasaki. The boy knows nothing of what calamities his existence brings, even now, but he will. Honoka would not always be there to protect him from this world she brought him into. Perhaps it was foolish to outsiders that Akarui involved herself in this matter and brought her child into this mess as well. She saw it as an opportunity to see if the threat was imminent, and for the past century, she’d seen nothing but a child… simply being a child. The boy knew little of what he was about to be exposed to, and perhaps this is where Honoka faults at her teachings. It was far too late to make up for that now.
Kyomu demands for her to report to the Commander to explain herself and she would find no problem in this, merely nodding in compliance. Her hostility ceases when she knows her own child is unharmed, so there is no reason to make trouble where there isn’t a necessity.

She had known this entire time. There was an inkling of hope that had led the foolish girl to believe in the version of herself that put Captain Asakura on such a high pedestal that he could not face death. Just as she thought, another man that she cared for had met the sweet release of death and left her behind. Was it a feeling of yearning that now gnawed at her? Perhaps it was. Though, at this very moment, it was likely to be something else. Those around her would soon feel exactly what was going through her mind. The sweet and sorrowful tone of Sanyu echos throughout her head as her facial expression contorts into something that is not Atsuko Ise. There is no smile that typically adorns her face. Instead, there is only a pained expression mixed with regret. There are things within this world that the woman has had to accept as reality. First, Captain Kojima had perished 100 years ago. Such was a shock to her, yes, but she was not worried about it. At least, she thought there was no need to worry.
Now, within her mind a myriad of images present themselves. A slaughtered Gotei 13 lies in front of her, her own Division front and center. Was this what could happen if the Rukongai was left unchecked? It seemed as if this may have been the case. Without any evidence, she had drawn the conclusion that something or someone from the Rukon had murdered Itsuki Asakura. Worry mixes itself into the emotions she feels. With deadpan eyes, the images of death that plague her head continue to play as she envisions an unknown group killing those she cares about—those she respects. The death of a Captain was not something that should be taken lightly. It is something that does not happen on a regular basis, no. This was cause for alarm. Such an event was rare—perhaps even the rarest thing within the Soul Society when the cause was unknown. He had been desecrated and left in such an unimportant location. Whoever put an end to him did not care for his position, nor what his Haori stood for. There was much to do, yet that gnawing feeling wouldn't leave her alone.

"The bird I sent to look over Kuroari has r-returned. It might have found our captain, and, it can lead us to him, when… when you are ready."
At the moment that the last word leaves his lips, she has already scrutinized their location two—no five times over to ensure that she reaches the location where the body now lies. She was not in need of guidance, no. It was up to her to see him with her own eyes before the other two could. He meant so much to her and he had abandoned her. Just as Signy had expected, Atsuko has arrived at their Captain's body long before either of them could even register that she was there. Her glasses tilt slightly as she looks down at his body. It is barely recognizable, but she does analyze the shape just to ensure that she is not being fooled. This is indeed the man they were looking for. His Haori and Shihakusho have been dirtied with blood, mud, and soot. Kuroari was a place that people went to die in the midst of others that had given up on life. Even if any of them had come across this body, there was likely no sense of urgency felt by any of the residents to report such. And even if they could, when was the last time that the Seventh Division spent enough time in this decaying district for someone to report something?
Yet another oversight makes itself known to her. Time and time again throughout this short endeavor, she has found herself to be lacking. While others may not perceive her as such, she is her own worst critic because she has to be in order to lead their division properly. There is no point at which the light reignites within her violet hues. Within her arms now rests the dirtied Haori. As Signy walks over, her hand traces over it for a moment. Every emotion building up within her is raising to the surface even fast, as she clutches the sides of her head in what appears to be agony. Although there was no physical pain, there was emotional pain. Turning back to the residents of Kuroari, she has stepped away from the body of Itsuki for a brief moment, just as Signy finally arrives at his body. In the absence of tears, something else has broken through the surface. And that something else is...
Rage
A flood of pressure comes forth. Its source is the Lieutenant herself. Like a beacon of light, her peach-dyed energy makes its way into the sky as it bursts forth, violent and filled with nothing but anger. Anger at herself for her negligence and anger at those that she did not even know. Signy would find herself unable to pull the corpse up from where it now rested, while Sanyu would find himself plastered to the ground in a similar fashion given the unannounced explosion of energy. She was still within earshot of them, and they would know this just as well as the residents given how well they would be able to hear her. From her mouth come words filled with contempt for those of the district they currently reside in. It's evident that she has reached a state in which she cannot control the turbulent emotions that come forth, working in tandem with her Reiatsu that now threatens the citizens before her. Surely, those not even within Kuroari would catch wind of what was happening. She extends her left arm that carries the Haori and points to it with her right, opening her mouth so that she can begin to speak. Words continue to escape her as her breathing picks up and vengeful tears fill her eyes but do not spill out. In a way, she seems to be out of breath—almost breaking into a pant as she cannot fully stabilize herself. A couple of seconds pass and she can finally muster the words she intends to speak.
"YOU.... YOU ALL OF THIS DISTRICT, KUROARI... YOU HAVE NOTHING AT ALL, SO WHY!? WHY DO YOU TAKE FROM THOSE THAT STILL HOLD ON TO HOPE?! WAS THE JOY AND LOVE THAT OTHERS GIVE TO ONE ANOTHER TOO MUCH FOR YOU TO HANDLE!? YOUR DISGUSTING JEALOUSY GOES SO FAR THAT YOU HAD TO TAKE HIM FROM US!? DOES THIS HAORI MEAN NOTHING TO YOU ALL!?"
Her speech is clear despite it coming out in the form of screaming inquiries. Beneath her, the Earth begins to crack and break with each passing word that rolls off of her tongue.
"WHY!?"
She screams once more, as the Earth beneath her crumbles completely, giving way and creating a crater at least 10 meters in length. Her Reiatsu continues to pour into the sky as her head tilts towards it while screaming. Tears run down her eyes as her pressure grows stronger. It is now up to both Sanyu and Signy to do something to make her stop. While their lives are not in danger, that does not mean that danger itself is absent. At the very least, it's evident that her current volatile state threatens to decimate the district and what's left of its people.
What will they do to stop her?
