Tensions remained high and heavy within the barracks of the Second Division, its members restless as they turned over every leaf and stone to find something that could possibly appease their Captain upon his return. The relief previously found from the revelation of the nature of the courier’s visit and the contents of the message delivered was lost in the waves of dread, recalling that though they were spared the fangs of one beast, nothing would spare them from the beast that was their Taichou. There had to be something, anything that would point them in the right direction, eyebrows knitted — they were anxious of what fate lay ahead of them should they fail.
It was a fear that wasn’t unwarranted
BOOM
b043f6b79f45006695604d0d917ad6e9.png

The explosive sound of the barracks gates being burst open jolted everyone within the courtyard, startling the already stressed out souls. Had the Captain returned? He’d already be furious from having to have proctored another exam, it was too soon! They hadn’t found anything to offer up to temper his seething rage. Eyes cast towards the gate, a black streak comes sweeping through, it wasn’t their Captain. Though relieved they move to find out the identity of the one that dared to enter their grounds so brazenly, perhaps a scapegoat offered to them by the Soul King.
Their approach brings them towards one of their own, a young girl with eyes of a deep purple, eyes that told tale of its own stress and worry separate from their own. They swarmed her, and bombarded her with questions.
”Hey what’s going on?”
-
”Did something happen?”
-
”Is it the Captain, did he tell you something?!”
-
”Just give it to us straight, the First Division is coming here aren’t they?!”
Each question unveiling the askers own worries and apprehension. The girl’s purple orbs dart from person to person, she attempts to maneuver around them, trying to avoid leaking the news of their Lieutenant, but her peers are insistent, her every turn met with a body blocking her retreat. She glances down in thought, hesitant to speak….but speak she does.
“None of this leaves this division.
She begins, a fact that was already well understood amongst those within Second. The consequences for anyone disclosing information was practically a death sentence. Who among them was so bold to dare test those dark waters?
“Lieutenant Yūgure confronted Shirogane Kuchiki and was arrested for interfering with noble affairs, but things have gone awry. Her current situation is unknown, but it’s not looking well. We need to find Captain Mukuro to let him know.”
For a second time, their bodies jolt in surprise and worry, quickly growing stiff. The Lieutenant did what? And what happened to her?! With every word spoken the situation got worse, and everyone present immediately regretted their curiosity, regretted hearing this unbearable news.
Captain Mukuro was already furious; furious with Xioalin for having abandoned his post and fled, furious with them for having not noticed, then further annoyed from being forced to proctor, now this? They cursed the Lieutenant in their heads and beneath their breath, her antics were already a headache to deal with, but now…..Once the Captain got word of this, it would certainly send him over the edge.
The courtyard was immediately consumed whole in a ghostly silence as every mind imagined in its own way, the height of the Captain’s wrath, and the extremes in which he would respond.
“C-captain Mukuro was summoned to test a new applicant. W-we don’t know whether he’s finished or not.”
Finally, one of many shadows speaks, breaking the wall of silence. The news pierces the burdened messenger like a blade, her hands racking and running through her dark hair.
Fuck…
Fuck!...
“FUCK!”
From such an extreme reaction, it was evident that the situation was far more dire than what even they could imagine, they unconsciously step back as though she were a plague. The act is lost to the woman as she steels herself and tries to salvage the situation best she can.
“Find Fourth Seat Fujioka and tell her to wring out any information from the Kuchiki Matriarch, and to use any method necessary.”
They stared on in confusion, they were to expect a visit from the Kuchiki Clan’s matriarch? No, that couldn’t be right, from the way she worded it, it almost felt like she was implying they had allegedly taken the matriarch prisoner.
NO
That couldn’t be the case, it SHOULDN’T be. If the Lieutenant truly had been arrested by the Kuchiki clan, then taking its matriarch prisoner and worst….interrogating or torturing her was out of the question! Their Squad could not afford to offend one of the Four Noble families, especially not now! They gazed at the woman with incredulous eyes. This woman...was a bad omen. They gazed back towards the barracks gates, yet no sign of an imprisoned matriarch ever came. The woman continues addressing the crowd, still expectant of the arrival of the special “package”, a package named Kuchiki.
“The High Priestesses have issued an order on the arrest of any and all shinigami that dare to infiltrate the Sixth Division to be sent to the Maggot’s Nest immediately. There are several operatives waiting as we speak, but be prepared for retaliation. Everyone already sees us as traitors to the Soul Society. Handle them accordingly.”
CRRAAAAACCKKK
An adjacent pole cracks under invisible pressure, its structure, compromised. The pole begins its fall, swinging down towards the courtyard of the Second Squad.

The heads of the Onmitsukido swing like a swivel, scanning the immediate area. As the bumbling Jiroshizo scurries off, fleeing from both the searching stealth force, and his responsibilities regarding the destruction of the pole, a shadow swoops over him in passing. It is the returning Captain of the Second Division, Kyomu Mukuro.
He lands quietly upon the courtyard, and glances around at his subordinates, crowded and gathered in one area, on high alert. He notices the tension is double...no, triple what it was before his departure.
Something had changed
Amber colored hues glance at the fallen pole, then swings to the Stealth Force, and finally lands on a young woman who seemed to be the center of attention prior to his return. The Captain approaches the girl, standing before her he silently studies her expression, and sees the worry, the concern almost clawing in those purple orbs. He breaks his stare, and gazes once more at those around them, giving the crowd a once over, observing the turning of heads and the lowering of eyes as if to hide from his passing gaze. His focus is once more fixed on the dark haired girl.
”Do not delay, do not idle, and do not hesitate.”
The Captain begins

The sound of a falling pillar caught the attention of every head within the courtyard, and while they wanted to advance after the peeping tom, they all stopped in their tracks at the sight of their Captain.
Their hearts were in their throats, and especially the woman who came to relay the information in the first place. Captain Mukuro lingers on her at first before scanning the horizon, gauging the tension between each and every member before falling onto her once more. At his approach, she immediately falls to a knee, and the others follow suit out of fear.
The tension is palpable, and her hand trembles, but she digs her fingers into her thigh to replace fear with pain. His presence is overwhelming and she can’t help but keep her head down from looking at him… And then he commands her to speak of all past and present events. She can’t do much but comply.
“Captain Mukuro, as of your departure to heed the call of the Captain Commander, Lieutenant Yūgure simultaneously left to attend to personal matters regarding Shirogane Kuchiki.”
She swallows roughly and continues, so not as to anger her captain with meaningless delay.
“While it was believed to be a personal vendetta, among further investigation, Shirogane had been using the Kuchiki private account to pay off others in order to keep quiet over the course of three months, and hours earlier, he was seen for the first time since the incident of the Kokotsu, bearing their scarf and accessories.”
Thinking back to when they were trailing behind their lieutenant, she lingered in the shadows with the others, watching as Yasu confronted the Kuchiki and the self-proclamation of the Kuchiki head was in the air.
“Shirogane Kuchiki proclaimed himself as the acting Head of the Kuchiki Clan as he received one of the most dangerous artifacts, the Aku Hachi Hakkō, from envoys consisting of the First and Fifth Division, even newly promoted Captain Teenzen Oda. Lieutenant Yūgure interrupted, trying to prevent the pot from entering the residence while projecting her claims of embezzlement and false claims of his position, but it proved to be too little to act upon, and she was arrested.”
She managed to lift her head and come to meet the eyes of her captain, and her breath caught in her throat, and she somehow willed herself to drop her gaze once more to the blades of grass beneath their feet.
“She went without a fight… It seemed she had a plan. Infiltrating the Kuchiki Manor successfully, she escaped her imprisonment, made contact with us, and managed to take advantage of the separated Matriarch before ordering for her to be escorted here, but… they have yet to arrive…
But they had yet to come, and it had been long enough since the extraction.
“Or they’ve failed indefinitely. She returned back inside the Manor in order to stop the cleansing process, but there’s a chance that… she won’t be returning back alive. We were negligent, and have endangered the lieutenant.”
That was the end of the report.
It was silent…
She didn’t dare to look up. If she was rid of today, then it would be the end for her. Captain Mukuro was livid beyond imagination upon his return and knowledge of Xiaolin’s disappearance and treachery. Adding to the situation of his summoning to act as a proctor, they all knew of their captain’s hatred of testing candidates for captaincy… And now, to hear of Yasu’s involvement and lack of knowledge regarding her health, she didn’t dare to understand what her captain was thinking of.

The stealth force fall to one knee, falling the lead of the bearer of terrible, terrible news. She struggles with delivering the information, a struggle that becomes visibly apparent from the trembling of her hand. Fingers dig into her leg, a silent order to the limb, commanding it to be still — a feat meant to trade fear for pain, eyes lowered to allow ignorance of his expression to further the feeble courage just barely mustered by the girl.
“Captain Mukuro, as of your departure to heed the call of the Captain Commander, Lieutenant Yūgure simultaneously left to attend to personal matters regarding Shirogane Kuchiki.”
She pauses, but only briefly, doing her best not to further fan the flames of Kyomu’s anger. Kyomu says nothing, and recalls the events of the altercation between his Lieutenant and the Sixth Division’s third Seat as was relayed to him. Shirogane Kuchiki, a man with nothing to show beyond the name he so desperately clings to. The man was bested by Captain Kojima during his attempt at Captaincy. From what he had heard, that defeat was the cornerstone of the Kuchiki’s spiral into failure...appropriately so — there was no honor to be found in being bested by that clown of a Captain. Still, he couldn’t comprehend his Lieutenant’s need to seek out someone already defeated by her hands.
The first bit of news was curious, after a repeated record of defeat and failure why would the ever proud Kuchiki Clan name him as their head? Still, it was only curious, not the least bit truly interesting. That bit of intel paled in comparison to the fact that the Central 46 and even the Captain Commander would allow THAT item to be taken out. He listened on, his expression remained unchanged despite the news of a new Captain being named, one such Tenzen Oda. Tenzen, a man who was at the scene three months ago, to think he’d manage to rise to the stage of Captain. How...unexpected. The Captain continues listening on, doing nothing to interrupt the woman’s recounting of events, each detail unveiled weaving a deeper and darker tale.
She was arrested
ARRESTED
LIEUTENANT YŪGURE WAS ARRESTED
The words reverberated within the ears of the Phantom.
The girl musters up a bit more courage to lift her head and steal a glance at her Captain, and...as their eyes meet for the briefest of moments...her courage fails her, and she regrets her decision, immediately dropping her head and gaze once more.
“She went without a fight… It seemed she had a plan. Infiltrating the Kuchiki Manor successfully, she escaped her imprisonment, made contact with us, and managed to take advantage of the separated Matriarch before ordering for her to be escorted here, but… they have yet to arrive…
Quickly she resumes speaking, perhaps telling the Captain the Lieutenant had conjured up a plan of sorts, that she had escaped would ease his mind, quell his rising temper.
“Or they’ve failed indefinitely.”
She speaks again, beginning with more of a mutter, not wishing to be the bearer of bad news any more than she already was — but she couldn’t deny the possibility, even though she so desperately wanted to.
“She returned back inside the Manor in order to stop the cleansing process, but there’s a chance that… she won’t be returning back alive. We were negligent, and have endangered the lieutenant.”
The woman ends her report, and along with the others present, awaits the Captain’s response.

Silence
The Captain is uncharastically unresponsive to the news, there is no sound amongst those present save the tumultuous beating of their hearts within their own ears. Their breathing is unconsciously held, and it isn’t until a few teeter on the edge of passing out do they consciously will themselves to draw breath. There were none present, counted amongst their number that didn’t know of the unspoken importance of the Lieutenant to their sullen Captain. Now...he’s just been told that not only was that same Lieutenant left to her own devices and arrested, but her current status was unknown...even worse, a chance that she would die?
Still, why hadn’t the Captain responded? Why were they tormented with this unsettling silence? Everything was simply too….too calm. Far too calm to be exact.

”I see-”
They subconsciously jolted, the silence finally broken. And with it came the passing of the calm...and the emergence of the storm.

Kyomu is known as the Phantom, a specter that roams and haunts the grounds of the Seireitei, with nary a sound or discernible presence. It is now however, that his presence is felt, his concealed and restrained reiatsu released, and his fury known.
The entire barracks become smothered in the presence of their Captains Spiritual Pressure, and his now his unrestrained killing intent. Amber hues becomes lost in the vibrant glow of blue, spilling from his eyes in strips and shreds of spiritual energy.
”Half of you will head with me towards the Sixth Division, the rest of you will remain here, secure the barracks and await further instruction.”
His venomous gaze sweeps over the flood of subordinates surrounding him, all still burdened by the Captain’s malicious aura. Muscles scream as they strain to support them, lungs ache and struggle to draw breath, while hearts...plagued by sharp pains stabbing into them, laboriously beat within compressed chests.
”If anyone lags behind for even a moment...I’ll kill you. Move.”
His words, like a cold blade slicing through them, their Captain moving with a single explosive step. No one dared to assume he spoke in jest, that his words were spoken idly from anger. Captain Mukuro would honor what he had said.
They give immediate pursuit of their Captain, half eager to try and possibly save their Lieutenant...half moving in an act of self preservation, seeking to avoid death at the Captain’s hands. They could only hope for theirs and everyone’s sake...that Lieutenant Yūgure still drew breath… Should she die today
The Phantom of the Seireitei would undoubtedly become a Vengeful Ghost (Onryō) on behalf of young Yasu.

The Maggot's Nest was swarming with activity now as the members that worked within were given their tasks. They knew the inmates best, and now they would use this knowledge to pursue those who were known to be associated with anyone who was now missing. The hum of activity that surrounded her felt like slow motion, eyes drinking in the sights as she listened closely for any new bits of information. However.... I should go too... Considering their current state of affairs it was, to her, not very smart to simply join one of the search parties right away. She needed to speak with their Captain, though reports that were received told her it would be an uncertain amount of time before he returned once again.
Slowly she'd move from the spot she'd been standing in for some time, shuffling feet taking her up the stairs. Her eyes catching a glimpse of the retreating sun as she resurfaced, taking in a deep breath of the fresh air. Movement near her captured her attention and she looked up in time to see one of the guards from the entrance approaching her with a large air of uncertainty. Sighing she faced him, giving a small nod in gratitude as she took back her Zanpakuto and leg bag of weapons. Adjusting them back into place the world felt for just a moment as if it had taken a pause. The ground shook violently, the tremors felt vibrating from...
kazshock.png

Eyes widened as she looked toward the main gates of Second where the shaking originated from. Fear gripped her for a few seconds as she froze, staring at where she needed to go now. She once again found herself in over her head. Gritting her teeth she waved her hand at the guards to resume their posts. A look came over her face as she glanced back toward them, giving off an air of reassurance she hoped she could feel as well. Setting off toward her new destination she used the opportunity to attempt to hone her skills, focusing in on the barracks gates. So many...there were so many there.
As soon as she had gotten close enough she felt the presence before she could see it. Relief mixed with a new tension as she made the realization of who it was. The Captain was back, although with her view of the current situation it didn't seem to be any sort of good news. Barely stopping at the edges of the fray she could hear his orders, though uncertainty filled her. His words had spurred everyone into action, half flitting away to complete one duty or another while the rest began to follow him. Tapping it a few seconds she shook her head, moving after the group that was following him.
