Asahi took in what the Twelfth Division member had stated, his expression intent on absorbing whatever was being relayed. Regardless of the tension the situation had caused, such a thing did not stop him from wanting to learn more. Almost anything could be used to improve and build upon the concoctions he makes. The application of such a substance could aid in improving his Saigo no Odori, even if it was to nothing but a mild portion of how this experiment worked. The hornets that remained in proximity to Kai either distanced themselves but remained or simply faded from existence all together.

””It's such a nice day! Let's take this class outside!””

Kai's excitement did not fade for a second leading even to the desire of a change of location. At the moment she had not done anything directly deserving of any further action, at least not anything that Asahi deemed necessary. Rather than furthering any effort to subdue the woman he instead just trailed behind the individual as she rode the slime entity through the hallways. Those that remained within the corridors may have been temporarily consumed and regurgitated by the mass, but seemed to be unharmed. Asahi remained at a pace to keep up with the jovial scientist but used only his feet to advance him.

"Asahi! Why are you in the Third Division with these simpletons!? A curious mind like yours belongs in Twelfth!”

Of any question Kai could ask that one probably surprised Asahi the most. The concept of being a member of the Twelfth never once crossed his mind. He was just someone who honestly fell into his practices because of them being a strong and constant occurrence of his upbringing. The line between him being the experiment and taking what he has learned to conduct those of his own were synonymous in his mind. He looked blankly forward for a moment while following the other individual as if he was on autopilot. It was as if he left his body for just a moment before sparking back to life.

"Caught me off guard there! I certainly didn't expect such a question! I dunno if curiosity is enough of a prerequisite, what I do is certainly much more small game than you guys."

What he responded with was a shallow truth. He didn't believe that what he did was of a caliber to truly cause any widespread change, especially not at the rate the Twelfth could produce it. Yet there was a bit more to his reasoning that he didn't say. Regardless of that, he kept a bright expression projected towards the researcher.

Eventually the pair had reached a dead end, something that Kai's slimy friend remedied without hesitation. Asahi stopped in the opening that was created looking at the internal portion that had been eaten through. He nodded towards it as if he was affirming something to an unseen force before leaping from the newly formed egress. After planting his feet firmly against the ground he raised his arms in the air as if celebrating something internally. As he lowered them, he noticed the buzzing coming from his Zanpakuto had become something of a more stable pattern. His optics trailed from the woman in his company and back towards the building itself.

”I thought Nyuraku and Captain Nakamoto were good friends… Why would he send people here to disrupt his experiment?”

Asahi heard Kai's outwardly spoken thought but didn't remove his primary attention from the signals he was being fed by his scattered swarms. Without looking towards her, he spoke.

"I called them! Though I don't know anything about any preestablished relationships. I just figured they may have been needed. Guess I was wrong! Oops!"

The Clown giggled to himself as he turned back to the Kasumioji. A single hornet landed upon the instructor's shoulder, proceeding to the flutter it's wings in a pattern separate from the buzzing coming from the gauntlet.

"It does seem that the Fourth's Lieutenant is here as well. So maybe that friendship is not as strong as it would seem?"

The starry-eyed male shrugged in tandem with the latter end of his remark. Captain Nakamoto was currently occupied with his own participation in the Games, so that statement may not be a real factor. Yet, if passivity was a typical response to events of this nature, then the Lieutenant wasn't on the same page. Either way, it didn't matter to the Clown. If anything it was a luxury to know that what was transpiring in the classroom would get resolved one way or another. He could instead dedicate his own time to someone that reciprocated a similar energy to his own.

"In any case. I do wish this experiment had been conducted in a way that did not likely traumatize the students. Yet I am still interested in whatever results come of it! I have a combative drug I've been developing to prolong the battle stamina of our forces... Yet in its current form it is a double-edged sword. It promotes accelerated regeneration to some degree. It also stimulates adrenal glands further than they likely already have been functioning... Though depending on the dosage can prove to be deadly as well."

It was rare that he got to talk about such things with others. The teachers that make up the Third often hold zero interest in any form of scientific development. It was understandable why that was the case, but Asahi still desired interactions with people who could contribute to his own development. It would certainly expedite his creations. Especially because he did not conduct such public and widespread tests. Perhaps the rapport he was building with Kai would blossom into a friendship that could prove to be advantageous to both parties.

”Thank you, Kobayashi-sama. I don’t know how long that would have taken if you hadn’t helped us out.

A statement of collective gratitude had been expressed by one particular Shinigami towards the one who aided in the expediting of one of their tasks. The man who expressed such altruism did not belong to their same division but instead simply sought out extra tasks to do in his freetime. Munehisa gave a simple nod to the appreciation before dismissing himself with a subtle smile. There was something so cathartic about accomplishing something. Even if that something was a task meant for another. Such a thing was still completely fulfilling. He felt no need for praise or accolades but instead basked in the glow of a job well done.

His strides from the group were brisk as he started to make his way towards the hosting point of the Games. He had no real obligations in the given moment to attend to, so he figured he’d give his attention to the festivities. This far along, it was likely that the first round had been coming to a close, yet he could simply seek out a recap prior to observing. As he walked onward towards his destination he scrolled through updates on his Denreishinki.

”There has only been one death. That’s surprising… Is there that much mercy among people fighting for such a bloodstained title?”

Munehisa wasn’t sure if what he was feeling was a tinge of disappointment. By no means did he wish for more death but presently it seemed like such a mild result of such a tournament. His perusing through the cliff notes was cut short by him noticing an orchestra of distressed spiritual energies coming from the direction of the Academy. His gaze gravitated to the direction of the institute which was coupled with his forward progression halting. What he was feeling was clearly not the norm but was his attention needed at this given moment? Probably not but… There could be something to do beyond simply heading to spectate the tournament at hand. The curious prospect of a task to complete overrode his immediate intent to head for the hosting grounds of the event.

The decision to investigate brought a bit more haste to step as he grew nearer and nearer to the location of question. To his surprise he was met with the school grounds being completely locked down by individuals in pink hazmat. A quarantine? What possibly could have gone down that warranted such a course of action? Munehisa had made his way towards the boundary of the lockdown, beckoning one of the suited-up Shinigami in his direction. He of course maintained a distance from the nearing individual but wanted to narrow the space between them to prevent the necessity for outright shouting.

”I’m sorry but you can’t be here right now. This area is under quarantine. We have the situation under control but we ask that all non-involved parties vacate the area.”

Munehisa raised his hand towards his hip and deepened his glance upon the Fourth member. He had no intention of passing beyond the boundary, especially not if there was some form of biological hazard in effect. He assumed that the statement was simply to deter the average party from either trying to provide aid or simply stick their nose in where it doesn’t belong. Normally he may have turned away and continued about his tasks but what he was feeling from within the establishment awoke a concern that exceeded his simple curiosity.

ezgif-4-ad2ddca6c9.png

”I’m Fifth Seat Munehisa Kobayashi of the First Division. By no means do I wish to proceed onto the premises. I want nothing more than a report on the situation. I have faith in those here to otherwise handle the matter.”

”O-Oh. Well I’m sure what I can provide wouldn’t be as sound as one from our Lieutenant. She is ri-”

”I’d assume she is preoccupied with whatever is going on. Feel free to tell me what you know. It’d be greatly appreciated.”

”Of course... I'll try my best.”

For the next few moments Munehisa had received as extensive of a summary that the hazmat individual could muster. It had seemed as if there had been some kind of pathogen released that resulted in a panicked mess within the boundaries of the school. The details didn’t extend much further than who the parties were based on witnesses and other receipts. This included the actions taken by Third instructors and the Fourth to lock down the grounds, physical contact progresses its symptoms, and that Kaido is some factor in the substance. The Nihilist mentally noted each detail weighing which exactly was important to relay. It was evident that Lieutenant Izumi would be the strongest source of information alongside the other direct witnesses. But after passing on this information to his superiors it could be up to their judgment if they wanted to pursue further details from the attending parties.

It was by no means an abnormality for Twelfth to be caught up in some experimental shenanigans but given the timing and the degree of panic, a report may be in order. Could this visit have been organized simply because a majority of Seireitei would have their attention spun towards the Games? Or was this just a coincidence? Given that there didn’t appear to be any reported physical harm, it didn’t require any direct attention from himself at the given moment. For now, he’d simply continue on his path towards the hosting grounds and pass on what he had learned.

”Thank you for your time. Please let Lieutenant Junko Izumi know to reach out with anything that may shed more light on what is transpiring. Even if it seems minor, it could allow us to access any variables.”

The snake-eyed man gave a gentle smile as he spoke to the pink-clad individual. Despite the warming expression his lips made, his piercing eyes did not soften. Instead they were locked in their own kind of stasis. Devoid of any real emotion and carrying a quality of staring right through another’s being. He did not do this intentionally but such a split expression was often recurring. Even with the genuine grin cast upon his visage, he’d never break his hollow gaze. Throughout the entirety of this exchange it was as if the man never even blinked, which was something that became even more apparent in this moment as he tried to express his gratitude.

The deadlock his eyes had upon his company soon came to an end as he pressed onward towards his destination. His initial movements were quick yet visible, but soon enough he disappeared from view, becoming nothing but a ghost in the wind.

The blob of flesh Kai sat upon began shifting back into nothing more than slime but took a more uniform shape, like a water droplet that rests on a leaf. Her expression is blank as she “observes” the fourth division clean-up crew while Asahi explains that he is the one who called them. With the added mentioning of the Fourth Divisions Lieutenant arriving as well brings more questions and confusion to Kai. This is something that exceeds all known boundaries of the sort of science she studies, something that she herself has no knowledge on. This is an issue of social science, Sociology. Animalistic behavior is one thing but the social behavior of people is different, she doesn’t understand things like friendship or companionship, only things like seniors and juniors. But as she comes to this conclusion she gains a widening grin on her face once more.

”Ah! Of course! This is why Kurotsuchi-san is considered a genius!”

She looks back towards Asahi as he now begins speaking again, specifically about the experiment this time.

”The students will be fine! They will look back on this and laugh! I mean this is tame compared to watching your classmates get ripped to shreds by Hollows! And this drug of yours, it sounds interesting! You’re developing it with the meger tools here at Third Division!? That is impressive but think how much more ground you can cover at Twelfth Division!”

She throws her arms up in the air at the end of her sentence, once again trying to tempt Asahi into joining their fold. He seems to have a knack for dabbling in drugs and chemicals, on top of which he isn’t a bumbling fool. The slime she coated her body with to eliminate the Kido earlier was still present on her body as she smiled and looked up towards the sun in the sky. Ordinarily looking at the sun through a substance like slime would cause one to squint or close their eyes from the blinding rays, but given her inorganic eyes she can stare at it without worry. It truly was a nice day out.

”When I need to conduct more vile experiments that pose a risk to a subject's survivability I typically tag along with Tenth or Thirteenth Division dolts on their patrols. Hollows tend to make the best test subjects.”

She lets out an awkward giggle that has a creepy undertone to it. The malice in her voice as she spoke her next words was evident, enough to the point where it deepened her voice slightly.

”Getting my hands on a stray Quincy or Fullbringer is like finding a jackpot. My more potent drugs and experiments can be done with them and provide the best data given their human anatomy. The best part of all no one cares if they go missing from the world hehehehehehe…”

She finally fixes her gaze back upon Asahi with a wide open mouth smile plastered on her face.

”I’ll need to run new tests with my Bakkōtō soon. When that day comes do try to be available. I’d love to see your science!”

She stretches and sighs, falling back on the ball of slime to rest. Today has been quite the eventful trip, a lot was learned and perhaps, this strange corner of science known as social science may finally reveal a bit of its mysteries to Kai. Through Asahi she may discover friendship or at the very least aquaintenship.

”I guess I’ll go now! There is nothing else going on since Fourth Division will probably be mean and put a stop to a good experiment! Anyway, remain available Asahi! The world of science awaits in the Living World!”

With those final words she sinks into the ball of slime that proceeds to speed off in an attempt to exit Third Division, her new destination being her humble home in the Northwest, Twelfth Division.

Junko's gaze was soft. A natural appearing smile spread across her lips, she appeared to be in relief to have made the discovery she had about the “miscommunication”. Lies merged with truths when she had spoken. Simply asking the man may have worked, though she had gambled instead to pique his interest with a calmed temper and words, then by merely voicing her Captain's name. Her focus was intently on the task before her, the man before her. Considering the situation surrounding them would only bring her anger and upset. Conversing with him in a reasonable and nearly friendly manner was the only way she could see to move forward. Seemingly appeased by her explaining away her own presence, he moved forward into a long rant about Nakamoto-Taichou. Cutting him off as she continued forward as his focus seemed to stray, he was brought back to the present topic. Albeit frustrated, the man agreed.

His back facing her, she allowed a silent breath to be released that she hadn't realized she had been holding. The moment he grew silent Junko wondered immediately where she had failed and what would occur next. His sudden outburst nearly caused her own physical reaction to reach for her Zanpakuto. Fortunately she had held steady.

"It won't always be so easy,"

Junko had no words for Gumyōchō. If she believed Junko held such notions, perhaps it was time for Junko to spend more time focusing on her weapon. A caring being, yet she was relied upon rarely. There was likely soon going to be a need for her aid. Yet the two had grown distant. Junko resolved to mend this rift. Their intertwined fates demanded it.

Nyuraku had returned with a syringe by the time her musings ended, attention now fully fixated upon the appearance of the liquid inside of the small tube. Was it watery or more viscous? What was the exact hue and coloring? Down to the very size of the needle itself, a glimmer of a clue as to the possible dosage. As to how he decided upon where to inject the substance, Junko could not piece together. There seemed no rhyme or reason to her as an observer as to how he chose the location he had after looking over his work.

Awaiting to see what the reaction would be, a strange sensation began to appear. Flooding out from the instructor, a sudden rush of reiatsu? Feeling it draw nearer she took a step aside, the effects appearing to have a physical limit with their distance. Not wanting to look away from the blob, she could only wait to see if the situation with the man would escalate or resolve itself. Watching the mass closely, she eyed where the students began to fall from. First just the one, then one after the other. The process also appeared to have destroyed any remains of clothing or accessories worn by the students while creating a strange liquid as well.

Fortunately, the appearance of the first student had halted the instructor's strange reaction, moving into action as if nothing had happened. Following behind him Junko coated the man with her reiatsu, the sensation of calm washing over him if he allowed it. Empathetic eyes observing the poor soul and whatever inner turmoil had just befallen him. Yet all the same, this comfort was all she could afford him. She had to focus on returning to the Games and getting samples of the secretions left behind from the destruction of the masses.

Despite remaining wary and prepared, Junko felt a weight lifted. Though in different states of emotional trauma, everyone appeared unharmed. Watching as the man collected a sample of the milky material, he appeared at first delighted then once more annoyed. As he spoke she looked before her, gazing over the strange scenario. Reiatsu spread evenly across the school now, the students sprawled before her would soon be snatched away from the dark corners of their minds, cradled gently into calmer states. Breathing out softly, she spoke in between his ramblings in response.

"Fascinating,"

Sense2.png

"apologies but yes please. Thank you so much. I will do so,"

The man meandered away, his voice fading as he grew further and further away, still carrying on his ramblings. Though she had not reacted nor replied to the mention, his comment had not escaped her grasp. Why would he attend the meeting? It made no sense alone, yet mixed with his speaking of such things with the situation as it was, it made Junko all the more nervous. Gritting her teeth, she shook her head and lifted it upward. A large grin on her face as she looked over the students, hand up in apology.

"Gomen ne. You must be so afraid. I have to leave you for now, but my comrades are wonderful. Along with your brave instructors you are in great hands."

As she neared the hallway she had previously left her comrades, they were prepared to greet her at the entrance. With a nod she relayed what had occurred, as well as instructed them to help with the clean up and to obtain their own samples. For now, the quarantine would stay in effect until the area was cleared by Nyuraku of lingering gas or affected students, then until the school itself had been cleaned by the Hazmat team. Preparing to see what had happened to the strange woman on the slime creature, Junko was met with multiple Division members vying for her attention. Multiple messages, news and updates.

Asking for the most pressing information first, followed by brief murmuring between the others, one man finally spoke.

"The first round of the Games is nearly over, ma'am!"

Clenching her jaw, Junko lurched forward, beckoning the others to follow while the rest remained behind to assist with the students.

Mizu is all alone. And I didn't see what happened in the match. Is Nakamoto-Taichou okay?

Regardless, she needed to be there when the matches ended. Exiting the building, it appeared the woman from Twelfth was already departing, while the instructor who had called for aid in the first place was near-by, seeming to have been in their own conversation rather than battle. What a relief. One less problem to worry about. Though she had wished to speak to the man about the incident, it would have to wait until another day. A detour was made to inform those at the barrier of the plan, and to allow the departure of the members of Twelve without any delay.

She could sense that Takashi was near-by as well. He was to be informed or was free to follow her. This was the message she had sent to him. Although she felt badly for treating him so rudely, she had no time to spare. Removing the rest of her hazmat suit, Junko looked to the others with an affirmative nod that they could do so outside of the barrier. Though what was left behind would be handled properly, sent to be cleaned immediately. Launching into a shunpo but keeping at a pace slow and steady enough for those who had followed her thus far, she called to the three men behind her.

"We need to move, tell me everything you know while we get back to our post,"

The practicality of going to the fourth was a questionable act. No information or other details to act upon. Koyo often got terrible feelings, while it was a clever idea to placate them occasionally. This time wasn't one of those moments. A question had been raised far more critically. Could the combat style learned at the academy be effective? Was it something that could handle the transitional period? Fighting in the streets of Naruki. The question had merit; of course, going to Naruki to test it was an applicable method.

But the pretense of heading there to test a combat technique was reckless. Also, the orders would contradict the effort of doing so. Squad Four could indeed help with the medical issues that Koyo suffered. His body being examined would likely uncover years of physical abuse.

It was regretable not following those two. Though it wasn't likely those two could answer the question. Koyo never did ask the question inside him. Uncertainty dominated the boy, along with his docility. A direct method was required here. The source of the insecurity is the combat techniques, and styles learned at the academy. So it made sense from a practical place to go there.

Finding a teacher with whom sparring was possible to see the holes. To find a practical way of fighting that suited Koyo Koetsuji. The skills gained here could be shuffled. The deck wasn't entirely settled as of the moment. Meaning a strategic style using the powers of the Zanpakuto. He inhaled a breath as he finally arrived on those familiar grounds. It was a place a large majority of the years had spent.

Nostalgic in a way for how long he spent here, training tirelessly to assemble these skills. Captain Hageshi brought all of this into question. The fragile balance of the dominos had been tipped. Her power and skills made it abundantly clear. The mirror that Koyo saw as plain and acceptable had cracks. The distorted image of his skills and strategies brought questions. How broken was the mirror that he believed were his skills? Were they a practical presentation of combative applications?

His eyes scanned the area, trying to find someone. Locating a teacher would be the best way. He took a step forward before stopping himself instantly. Was it a wise course of action to seek the academy out? They were a harsh bunch; his visage stopped. As he brought a hand to his chin, considering the predicament, he found himself.

He stood upon the precipe of knowledge and change. Yet that single step troubled him; could Koyo pay the price at the gate?
