A humble home near the outskirts of Karakura Town is up for sale. The home has the potential to host a new or growing family while the land it sits upon has the potential to host another fast-food chain restaurant. Should the latter purchase the home it would be torn down to make way for his restaurant. These what ifs come to a head as a realtor brings two parties with them to tour the home, one man seeking a new place for his family and the other merely looking at the location and how it may benefit her company needs. Her intentions are not hidden in the slightest, even the two other humans can sense it as her arrogance fills the room. However, there is another entity who can feel the intentions of this man, an entity who lets its rage consume it and lash out against those who dare try to take its home; a Jibakurei.
Jibakurei, a spirit who is unable to pass on due to lingering regrets they have that tether them to the living world. The spirit becomes bound to a place by their Soul Chain making them unable to move and making them prime targets for Hollow consumption. This particular Jibakurei has regrets about leaving behind a home that has been in his family for generations, it died without children, without a family and so the line of succession ended with them. As a result, they have become bound to the home and seek to deter all who wish to purchase the home all to avoid letting it slip out of their hands.
The tour continues, the businesswoman could care less about the interior of the home and instead looks outside the windows, observing traffic and how much land she has to work with. Her intentions are not malicious, she is merely a professional doing her job and willing to play hardball when it comes down to purchasing the home, however, to the spirit she may as well be the devil itself. As she walks into a bedroom the door behind her slams shut, she thinks nothing of it until her attempt to open it fails. Panic ensues as she begins pounding on the door, opening her mouth to shout how she plans to sue the other two for pulling this “prank”, sadly, the moment she opens her mouth to do so nothing comes out. A restrictive force is felt around her throat, the Jibakurei aims to strangle her to death. The chain wrapped around her neck pulls her away from the door, standing her in the middle of the room with no way to call for help. The other hopeful homeowner is faced with his own predicaments as the young man was tripped by the chains in the bathroom, his head bouncing off the edge of the tub and rendering him unconscious. This wouldn’t be as bad if not for the sink and tub overflowing with water with electrical outlets sparking, wanting to get just a taste of water in order to electrocute the unconscious man. The realtor, cowardly in their actions, had known this place was “haunted” and left the home the moment the door had slammed and trapped the business woman. She stands outside in petrified horror, not knowing what to do or who to call for such a bizarre occurrence.
Fortunately, there are unseen forces at work ready to save the two victims and bring rest to the restless spirit in the form of Katsuo Oda. With the more dangerous threats cleared up for the moment handling a Jibakurei should be a trivial task, key word is should be. This spirit is hostile and reacts negatively to those who enter the home, and for those who wish to bring damage to the home risk to incur the wrath of the spirit. Katsuo must attempt to save three lives in this situation while navigating through a maze of chains strung up by the spirit. The three lives he must save are the business woman, the youngman and the Jibakurei as he must convince it to pass on to Soul Society peacefully.
Should the young Oda seek to destroy the chains they would be met with counter productivity as destroying said chains will hasten the spirits fall from grace and transform it into a hollow. Damaging the home could cause the Shinigami to find himself in a similar situation as the humans or perhaps even worse. Shinigami are to guide the dead souls to Soul Society and bring peace to their souls before they pass on, his current mission is to bring a single soul back with him but should he fail he runs the risk of bringing three souls with him instead.

For an Oda, nothing is more satisfying than combat. The rush of battle, the swing of the blade, the smell of heated steel; Many Oda have a fetish for these things. However Katsuo Oda, second son of Kyoki Oda and younger brother of Captain Tenzen Oda of Division five, really felt no use for such things. He believed the greatest battle to be fought was within one's mind. The power of persuasion was a wonderful trait; though the young Oda knew not all battles were won with words; many were prevented. Sometimes the pen could be mightier than a sword.
Perhaps today he and his fellow squad mates patrolling the edges of Karakura town would find such a scenario… approaching a seemingly modest dwelling; set aside the rise in sudden spiritual pressure within.
"What is that, a hollow?"
One of the fellow 13th Division members speaks up, just as a woman's scream is heard from the location of where they felt that energy earlier. Katsuo shook his head and grinned, he knew what it was; the unseated member was close; It had to have been a Jibakurei, a spirit that had long since passed and wonders the world of the living full of regret and sorrow.
"Close my friends; c'mon let's go handle it."
He dashed ahead of his two comrades but not too far; he had to let them keep up. Once they'd arrived Katsuo, 4th seat of Squad 13 would look over the situation before trying to think of a solution; and a solution he had to think of fast. The priority would be the humans trapped inside. Maybe there was a way to Stop the spirit momentarily. Katsuo phased through the wall but was met by chains that scattered all through the house. As he entered the two unseated 13th members with him did as well. He would whisper to them.
"use Hainawa on the unconscious man and pull him away from the electric current; it'll attract the Jibakurei's attention; I can deal with that."
One of the unseated members nodded and phased back out of the house. The other looked toward the woman who was being choked by a chain; Katsuo had a plan for her too.
"While the Jibakurei is distracted, go around to the back of the house and wait for my signal to get the woman out."
He simply made the other unseated phase through the wall back out of the house. The house was being surrounded. Suddenly; a Kido spell, Bakudo number 4, Hainawa. The rope glows as brightly as the electrical currents in the bathroom, and pulls the unconscious man away from the bathroom tub and sink, impairing him to the wall. This of course gets the attention of the Jibakurei. Before it can get close, Katsuo steps in front of its path.
"GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!"
There was a window of opportunity when the Jibakurei opened the door to the house to try and force Katsuo out, the unseated member used it to get the unconscious man out, however, the spirit still had a firm grip on the man's leg. The chain wouldn't go anywhere, yet, because Katsuo had a hold of it. He saw which one it was from the movement of his comrade. The man was safe; for now. Katsuo released his spiritual pressure to overpower the Jibakurei momentarily. Now the Jibakurei was slightly afraid and a bit confused as to who or what he and the unseated 13th were outside.
"Calm down, calm down. I just saw your distress and wanted to ask you what was wrong; why are you attacking these people?"
He said, pointing back with his free arm toward the man they just got out of the house. The spirit blinked, then looked up toward Katsuo, then back at the woman he still had.
"T-this is my house! This is all I have left! No family, no friends, nobody remembers me! They… they want to destroy it, and take it away!"
Katsuo blinked, then looked calmly at the spirit. A possession that reminded you of the past. Katsuo couldn't help but smile a little at the Jibakurei. He held onto the chain that was trying to pull the man back in for dear life.
"Do you want a family? Friends? Someone, to remember you? Something like that has to be worth more than a house right? I know a place that has all these things and more. You won't have to worry about people coming into your home and destroying it anymore."
The spirit looked a bit upset like it was being lied to about this wonderful place; it looked back at the woman it still had in its grasp and then back to Katsuo. This was his house.
"you're not going to make me leave!"
Katsuo sighed, and raised his spiritual pressure again; this time it made the house creak and moan, but it also caused the spirit to be pinned on the ground, causing his chains to release. They acted with haste; As they did the unseated with the unconscious man unwrapped his leg and pulled him to safety, and the woman dropped. The Jibakurei would fight back this time with his spiritual pressure, dust from the ceiling would start to fall. Katsuo would look up and start seeing cracks in the ceiling and gasp.
"Wait. STOP!"
The Jibakurei would stop as Katsuo did and look up at the ceiling too. As he was talking to Katsuo the other unseated 13th officer would sneak through the chains from the back yard through the back door and sneak the nearly choked woman out around the back.
"You saw this happening and stopped; why?"
Katsuo tried giving him a soft explanation as the unseated officer snuck the woman out the back. As he did, he would remove his Left hand Zanpakuto; the cold bladed one. He smiled at the spirit.
"Believe it or not, there are still people who care about what is important to others. These people cannot see you, or hear you; so they won't understand as much as people like us who can see and hear you will. Wouldn't you like to be seen and heard again?"
The Jibakurei looked at his hands, then to his body. For the first time in ages, it felt a sense of peace; of course, it wanted all of those things Katsuo spoke of. It wanted to be known; remembered even if in some small way. Katsuo couldn't help but feel a connection to this Jibakurei. Wanting a place to call home, feel like he belongs. He found that in the soul society. Maybe the Jibakurei could too. As the creature slowly looked up, Katsuo would perform a Konso; sticking the end of his Zanpakuto on the forehead of the thing. It was so sudden it didn't feel a thing… It didn't have time to react to the Konso.
"Go on my friend, to the soul society; a place where you can find a family; and a new home. After all, Home… is where you make it!"
As he disappeared the proverbial cloud over the house dissolved into nothingness; and it was time to clean up. He exited the front door as the two humans that were caught up in the mess were looked over by the two unseated. He bent down to see the female unseated using Kaido to heal the young man's head. He would help the other unseated replace memories for the woman, and once the girl was done healing the young man she would be next. As for the cracks in the ceiling… probably best to let them have a memory in which the repairmen still need to work on the house a little bit.

Congratulations Katsuo! You advance to the next round!

Your post has demonstrated enough of your critical thought to advance you to the second portion of the Captaincy Application. As of now, you are to advance to the combat portion of the test. Report to the Valley of screams by clicking the portal below.

There you will begin the first post against your opponent Captain Kyomu Mukuro. This fight will take place in-character, and be canon to the Group’s overall story. This means any actions you take may potentially have in-story consequences. Should you fail, it will become in character knowledge that Katsuo attempted and failed to become a Captain. There will be no time limit, but the amount of time you take between posts may factor into the Captain Council’s final evaluation. It is highly encouraged that you showcase the majority of your abilities, including Bankai. That said, you are free to use any means, and take any action, you deem necessary. The fight can be stopped at any point, but is permitted to continue up until the brink of death of either party.

Maybe next time...

You did well in your first round, enough so that the Captains decided they wanted to see more from you. However, after analyzing your fight they have reached the conclusion that your skills are better suited to that of a Lieutenant, and aren’t quite up to par for what is expected from our Captains in terms of combat, yet. No need to worry however, as your story is just beginning, and after some improvement, a Captain may submit your name to test again in the future! Your application for the title of the Captain of Thirteenth took courage, which is something to be proud of, and you represented your division well. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your performance, please feel free to contact any of the Captains, as well as the Captain Commander. You are free to make any necessary adjustments to your bio, and may continue to roleplay as Katsuo Oda, Lieutenant of Thirteenth Division!

With the unsuspecting death of Captain Kojima and both the disappearances of his co-lieutenant as well as one of the head publishing staff for the Seireitei Communication, the 9th Division’s productivity levels have dropped dramatically. While the lower seats scramble to form some semblance of order and routine into their lives to be sure they are ready for any looming threats, the Seireitei Communication is faring much worse. Deadlines are creeping closer by the day and the little amount of work the few Shinigami on the publishing team can complete at a time is just met with twice, sometimes thrice, the workload as a response.
However, their desperate lack of numbers isn’t the sole cause for their struggles– There is reason to believe there is a saboteur in their midst, actively hindering the completion of their news stories. On top of that, said saboteur has even put in the effort to spread malicious rumors about the publication threatening to paint the Seireitei Communication, no- the entire Division in a harsh light. The rumors have even gone as far as to rile the noble families, who now protest violently outside the publishing office, enraged in fear their dirty laundry might be aired for the entire Soul Society to indulge in.
The current seated Shinigami of the Ninth Division are unable to quell the mobs that grow both in size and ferocity with each passing day and so as a solution, they are forced to call upon the Second Division- specifically, Yasu Yūgure, in order to aid them in finding this reputed infiltrator and putting an end to the rioting nobles. A simple job for the Lieutenant of this infamous division and yet upon Yasu’s arrival, she is greeted only with more hostility from the mobs and surprisingly, even the Shinigami she is assigned to work with. Met with an uncooperative team with no fear to display their severe animosity towards her, her affliction, or her Division, it is up to Yasu to figure out how she will be able to put an end to the anarchy.
