Sometime during this, the reserve members of the twelfth division and Hanabi were going through the various tests that the petite girl was thinking of. There was the call to go to the world of the living and help with a barrier, along with Hell anomalies that were causing a problem, but she had something more important in front of her right now.
The haori of the togabito that was under a microscope, trying to zoom in on it and see if there was something special in the weaving of the fabric. Ten times, one hundred times, one thousand times zoom. As she looked at the finite weaving of the fabric she found...there was nothing special about it, it was woven like any sort of cloth, like the haori of the arrancar or shinigami.
Bah, moving on, she set up a strong and small jet of flame against the fabric while it was under the microscope. The way the flames touched the fabric, and just sort of bent around it, or were warded back eventually, it was something that allowed them to be protected whenever they regenerated in hell, or to avoid being detected by the wardens of Hell.
"Hell's Flames research log, zero-zero-one: I have vivisected and sectioned off the Haori into four square inch segments, some into one inch square segments, it seems that these fabrics are durable enough to resist flames and other forms of heat, which is to be expected. That said they are not immune to other forms of trauma, though the amount of trauma to produce a tear requires the force of a third seat or higher and a gifted one at that. Hypothesis: the way these fabrics work is different from what we so, if that is so, there must be a different style of molecular structure to them. End of log."
Hanabi wanted to see how the fabric stood up to various forms of fire, accelerants and the like.
"Lady Hanabi," her thought process was interrupted for a moment as one of the reserve members came in, "we are setting up communications with the members that are in the world of the living, Sir Nyaraku is out there as well."
"Oh! The Good Sir is?" Hanabi had an admiration and respect for that bug-eyed man, much to peoples' confusion, even through the insults she was given or dismissals, she always found his research method admirable.
"Uh, yes, would you like us t-" the person was pushed to the side as the petite girl ran up the stairs to fetch a list of notes.
"While I am gone, I want you to record the effects of gas fires, electrical fires and chemical fires. We need to find out why these things resist fires, and I need to see if they are resistant to other forms of fire more than others! Chop chop!"
Hanabi would move to the top of the twelfth division, the main floor, where a communications relay was set up between there and the world of the living. "Good Sir Nyaraku! Good Sir! I want to inform you I am holding the fort down here, and I have collected materials pertaining to Hell! I will be conducting research on the haori that the togabito adorn themselves with! All notes will be compiled by the time you return!"
She would leave the message for the man, running back downstairs to continue her test. She came down to find the random reserve member working on a piece of fabric with a bucket of water and an electrical current applied to it. It burst into flames, though that fire fizzled out quickly, perplexing Hanabi.
She walked over to grab onto the fabric, only to reel back as she was shocked on the hand, "Bah! it conducts electricity when wet and shocked!!! Fine! That just makes the notes easier to compile!"
After some time, she would fill out several more research logs.
"Hell's Flames research log, entry zero-zero-two: The fabric continues to perplex. It resists all forms of worldly flames and other states of trauma, that said, they adhere to the natural physics of the universe. Assumption: the fabric is spiritual in nature, and, being from Hell, can only be interacted with and enacted upon with traumas from other spiritual entities. Moving on, I will continue to test various chemicals and states of heat. Side note: had I the former captain's notes, this would be easier to study."
"Hell's Flames research log, entry zero-zero-three: Napalm is not conducive to proper results, though testing it out in one of the lower labs against the fabric of the togabito showed some results, the damage to the surrounding area was not worth it. granted, war time situations beget instances of destruction, though napalm's unnatural nature of being a manmade destruction would raise too much suspicion of used in the world of the living. Advisory: stick to spiritual means of combat. I will conduct research of various kido up to my limitations, I hope that Awai Chochin will work with me on testing out the flames of a shikai."
"La-lady Hanabi, why are you so intent on using fire on these garments?"
"Fire is one of the most common forms of spiritual energy in the form of kido combat, or weapons therein. You can see many shinigami favoring shakkaho. Cero from hollows produce a heat as the energy pulses out, though it operates differently. That said, Togabito have been reported wielding flames as their main means of combat. I will reverse engineer this god damned fabric so we can counter them!"
She sat down for several minutes, rubbing her horns as she took a moment to think. It would be a long time in the research labs.
About an hour later, Hanabi would be consulting her research notes again, compiling them further and further.
"Hell's Flames research log, entry zero-two-one: I have finally gotten around to testing out my own personal kido and inventions on this fabric! They are highly resilient but they are not immune to the powers output by myself, I had several other shinigami brought in from the fifth division and the eleventh division to test the upper and lower limits of damage potential with same numbered hadou and the like. It seems to be a direct correlation of spiritual power of the hadou and not JUST the number itself. Anything at level eighty or above would warrant enough damage to this fabric. I am making progress but there are more questions coming from the study of this fabric. How is it like an armor unlike our own haori?"
"Child, why must you continue to behave this way?" A voice came to her mind, causing Hanabi to look over to her sword in the corner. In her mind she saw the green woman, cloaked in Victorian era garments fit for a man, with an operatic mask over her eyes. Awai Chochin wanted to talk to her.
"You know this is not your true nature, you need only take the stage as a proper fighter. You'd be happier in any of the other divisions, why must you continue to do this? Child, why do we no longer enjoy the stage together?"[/color]
"I-- I have other duties to do, and I cannot be Peter Pan at all times. Someone has to manage the expectations of innovation, if we get far enough then maybe I'll think about transfe-"
"Pish and posh. You and I both know, Child, that your innovations will never stop, you wish to master the fires of the cosmos, and I admire that, yet you never stop for yourself. Where have our fun times gone?"
"I...Can't talk about this right now, but, I need your power. Do you...want to uh...do you want to let loose?"
"Come now, we both know the proper phrase."
"Please take the stage with me, my dear Awai Chochin." She walked over to her zanpaktuo, lacing her fingers along its handle before twirling it around overhead. From the handle down it turned into a discus shape in her hand with a string, the other portion of her zanpaktuo flung through the air as it glowed and turned into a similar shape as the first. Once the energy disappeared, she was holding two yoyos from one original sword.
"MARVELOUS this form is much more fitting for one such as us! Let us go conduct your tests to your heart's content! Set the world ablaze with your performance my dear! The world is your stage! The audience will stare in awe as you set everything abla-"
"This is for a little bit, but, it feels good again." She commented while walking off from her lab to one of the larger testing rooms in a lower floor. All the while she was doing yoyo tricks, the weapons growing and shrinking as they moved away from her hands and shrank back down.
