Having gotten her food first, Akarui managed to sneak a look at the other two who helped themselves to the bistro’s courteous menu. She had stuck with the simple tonkatsu and rice with the few side dishes. Rui was simple, and watching the other two engorge themselves on the many delicacies honestly almost made the woman lose her appetite.
“Thanks for inviting me out...I appreciate this.”
She didn’t say a thing, enjoying her meal but even from her limited gaze, she could tell that Shusuke’s attention was on something, but whatever it was didn’t concern her in the least. So long as his lecherous eyes strayed away from her, she wouldn’t have an outburst. Meanwhile, Kiku had taken the liberty to give his word regarding this third seat’s praise on inviting him out. Like the little social butterfly he is, Kiku replied back and went to scan over the menu for his order.
Plenty of time had passed and Rui stood up from her seat, placing her empty bowl and plates in a neat stack. Had Shusuke been unable to finish his food, Rui simply suggested he take it home or to his loved ones if he had any.
“Kiku. It’s time to go back. We’ve been away for too long. I’m sure that the Commander wants you to report to him.”
Bidding her farewells to the elderly couple and their servers, Akarui headed out the door, with Kiku right behind her. As she passed the Kiyoshi head, she stopped just long enough to utter a few words of “encouragement”.
“This will be the only time that I will offer my aid to you, Kiyoshi. Heed these words: Nobody can hurt you without your permission, and tactics without strategy are the noise before defeat.”
And she was division-bound, belly full, and a clear head… until the next stupid word that fell out of Kiku’s mouth.

He was overwhelmed by the taste of this scrumptious feast he allowed himself. The tastes were all very different from one another, the dishes were well prepared and not a single strand of inconsistency could be tasted on the tongue bed of the black haired Shinigami. He may have found a new restaurant to eat at after a long day's work. He looked to the other two and found them to be enjoying their meal in the same manner. As he ate, he reminded himself that he was a lot hungrier than he originally assumed, plowing through every plate of BBQ beef that came within his line of sight. In between chomps however his focus was still on this familiar looking child before him. He finally managed to finish gorging his face long enough to sit up and notice Akarui had politely placed her dishes to the side and had taken her leave.
The wait staff was awfully generous to her, she must’ve placed a spell on them prior to this visit because she was as stern as she could be curt. A side that Shusuke would have yet to see, he now would probably have to wait well into his graying years for that. She mentioned to pack anything he might not finish for anyone that he cared for. But it was a strange thing, up until that moment he was reminded of how deep of a solitude he had placed himself in. There...wasn’t anyone he really cared for. There Was but his whereabouts was unbeknownst to him at the present time, and he wouldn’t even recognise him at this point anyway. He didn’t answer, instead just politely nodding and smiling. But it was her words that she had left him with that more so caught his attention.
”This will be the only time that I will offer my aid to you, Kiyoshi. Heed these words: Nobody can hurt you without your permission, and tactics without strategy are the noise before defeat.
I suppose truer words couldn’t have been spoken. As shameful as it was for him to admit, it was difficult to look her in the eye when she had said that. Self defeat was becoming a trend and it was time for him to set it aside and take himself seriously. She walked out along with the white haired Shinigami. For a moment he looked into his lap, to find his first lady there ready for their next move. He sighed, and pondered the next moves going forward, but in order to do that. One must reflect on the past. He signaled the waitress but she motied to him that it was her break time and instead got the attention of a the younger boy chopping up ingredients in the kitchen prior. He looked big for his age, his clothes barely fitting him the way it should but it was his eyes that struck him the most about his appearance. Royal purple. Two gorgeous deep lavender galaxie that resided in his skull much like his own. These where generational, and can only be found mainly in one particular Clan.
He dared not ask the boy his parents lineage, most Rukongai children do not know who their real families are and thus form bonds and deep affections with one another found in the districts surrounding the seireitei. This was practiced everywhere, even in the richer districts it would seem. If this young boy was who he thought he was, then he was well taken care of. That was all Shu needed to know, but he was big, and looked very much like himself when he was younger, but he had wavier black hair and his eyes were kinder. I guess that was an attribute given to him by his mother. The young boy would loom into Shusuke’s similar orbs and ask for his order.
”Is there anything else we can get you, mister?”
He had such a kind voice, more like his mother than he would ever know. It was such a shame, but he was humbled that he had such keen manners for one so young. But looking at where he grew up, it should come as now surprise. Shusuke gave him another order for a slew of BBQ, rice and edamame, he sent the boy off but not without slipping a small wad of cash in his obi sash holding up his ragged clothing. He chuckled, hoping it wouldn't fall out, but he placed it well enough for it to be hidden until seen. His dark humor told him that it was money long overdue.
Over the past five months, the Seireitei has experienced certain strange events, more recently surrounding the revelation of a traitor from his own squad, Shirogane Kuchiki. The former highest ranking member and the chagrin to Shusuke’s misery at work. He turned out to be a devious bastard who slayed his entire clan to rise to power. Thus, giving him certain influence over Central 46, instructing them that he needs a sacred item to perform a cleansing ritual of whatever sort. But in turn, was looking for hollow abilities to wreak havoc on…..He did not know. All he new after that was that he did not get as far as the Rukongai before succumbing to his wounds sustained from fighting newly appointed Captain Tenzen Oda, Arashi Suta and Lieutenant Yasu Yagure within the Kuchiki compound which is now...not what it once was.
Things haven’t been the same around the division of late because of Shirogane. He was poised to become its next captain despite his similar failure in his attempt like Shusuke, he had a certain presence that was always welcomed among the silent brotherhood that lied in the 6th Division. All swearing to the commandments that shinigami hold sacred, they are seen as the model division to act on the laws and be a visual representation of the excellence that is the Shinigami Military. Despite his aloof appearance, Shusuke is the biggest example now, even more so than before. He knows all the rules, and while he may not police them all, he is aware of them. It was his duty to know them, as with all Shinigami, they must know the regulatory implication set in place for the order of not only the Seireitei, but the world at large. They were responsible for the balance of life between the living and the dead. Although it was a task they took for granted some, nonetheless. It was a task that behooved them to perform their duty with the utmost integrity and divinity. That creed was bonded especially into those of the Sixth Division.
He folded his arms underneath his pectoral muscles and pondered these things further. But he needed to uplift his comrades from the recent loss they had just taken. Another ‘turncloak’ division, he wondered if this must've been how the members of the Second Division felt. No matter, a job will always need to be done. He received his food and began to finish his second helping. In no matter of time he would be finished eating and then slip the restaurant the cash needed and more for the phenomenal service. He would be back no doubt. Tucking away his zanpakuto in his sash, he got up and left the establishment and was parted with a kind goodbye from the staff. How kind, in his short time there they sent him off so greatly. Most assuredly, because he ate and played so well.
It wouldn’t be too long until he made his way down the street before he was stopped by the black haired youth that served him prior to leaving. He looked at him unimpressed and a little bored, wondering why he was stopping him. Out of breath, he asks Shusuke about the reasoning behind the gesture he made.
”In all the time i’ve been working in the district. No shinigami has tipped like that. What makes you so generous?”
To him it was a simple answer really. But it wasn’t the time for this particular conversation, both of them would need some time before truly taking stock of the information before them. But Shusuke felt a bond to the boy already, and thus was responsible for his well being. As he always was and should have been. Once again their purple orbs met each other and this time it was different. He could feel...Power from this boy. Not surprising but. It was certainly present. That was good.
Looking away and upward to the sky, the day was definitely turning to be interesting to a degree. He simply responded to the boy saying…
”Never question generosity. It's quite rare. You’ll be seeing more of me maybe so get used to it. And if ya wanna chop more than carrots ever, let me know.”
With that final word he turned on his heel and left. The child watched him perplexed as he examined the money once more before looking back at the kitchen where he needed to get back to. He wondered if he could actually chop something more than carrots. That Shinigami would need to come back in order for him to find out.
Shusuke was now making his way back to the Sixth Division’s barracks to hopefully address the state of the squad and the meaning behind his promotion to 3rd seat. He did not know if he would be a capable leader, but for the time...He would need to find the talent. He used his Deireishiki to send a mass message to all of his members to gather in the main hall so Shusuke can address the affairs within the division. Hopefully he’d have their support.

Rukongai ———————————— traveling from ———————————— Southeast
Dust kicked up as she walked through the streets of the 64th District of the Eastern Rukongai, Sabitsura. Long before she even came to this world, this particular district had been one of several that mysteriously had its fair share of villagers disappearing. The situation proved to be dire for the likes of the Seventh Division, so much that members of the Eleventh had to perform an investigation themselves.
Around the traveling party of three, children laughed and played, adults, catered to their young and reveled in the calmness that they could own for the time being. Yasu adjusted her wristbands and managed to make herself look rather dingy. And that bad attitude that she perfected due to the help of her inner hollow, it was almost as if she were a completely new person. However, the sight of the pink-haired shinigami was a bit hard to miss by those who knew her best.
“Ya...yacchan...”
Turning her head, Yasu came face to face with a gentle soul, dressed in a light blue and white yukata. With hair as blue as the sea and eyes as bright as the moon, Yasu could easily recognize the youngest of her siblings, Kusagi Rin. Raising her arms up in greeting, she was greeted in a hearty hug that didn’t manage the slightest chance of budging. It’d been a while since she’d been home. Giving her quiet greetings, Yasu introduced Kusagi to the other two.
“Kusagi. Let’s go talk at home.”
Seeing her little sister wasn’t so much of a coincidence. She was actually supposed to be meeting with her mothers, but they were tied up in their business that provided a home for those new souls that ended up within the lower districts. Yasu would help out when she could, however, everyone knew about her little candy addiction. Speaking of which, as Kusagi led the three of them to her former abode. Upon entering, it was quiet, and Yasu took a seat against one of the beds and coughed as dust blasted out upon impact.
“Yacchan. What brings you home?”
“Work. I know that citizens have been raiding houses and businesses in the lower districts. Have they hit here yet?”
“Not that I know of, but it’s been very peaceful.”
“Not much longer though, I’m afraid… I need you and the others to be safe. As much as I hate to say it, the Soul Society has been a bit of disarray for the past couple of months.”
“Yes… Rumors have reached us even here. But seeing you-- Yacchan, you look so different. The hair, and the muscles. You’ve really changed from back then...”

Chuckling softly, Yasu rubbed at the back of her neck, but her amusement was short-lived. They had a short window of time to find one person that knew of the entire resistance, or at least he should have with all this time spent out here in his wily freedom. Hopefully, the two girls were listening. Though it might not have seemed to be much, they had things that they could do to solidify the existence of Kagewaki and find the escaped prisoners, while adding onto that list with their band of misfits.
“Stay with Mei and Eri for the next few hours and lock down everything. My subordinates and I will occupy this space for the time being.” Turning her head to the other two, she gave her orders on what to do separately. “Sakiko, Kazumi. I want you two sticking to the crowds when possible as you scout Sabitsura. And when it thins out, stick to the shadows. Make sure you watch each other’s back and keep your ears open for any hint at the resistance.”
Rolling her ankles around, Yasu grimaced in distaste. Man, she really hated geta.
“Don’t confront them unless you’re absolutely confident in handling them. If things go south… You two are well aware of the code. I’ll be headed towards the 65th District. If I find something, I’ll come and gather you two. Dismissed.”
Once the two of them had left, Yasu would run her fingers through her hair and release a breath that she didn’t know that she was holding on to. Her head was pounding, and the hissing from her Inner Hollow wouldn’t stop despite their promise, but Yasu knew better than to take her word for it. Managing to gather her thoughts and clear that dark cloud that’d been hovering over her since being released from confinement, she rose from her seat and stepped out of the house, and headed out towards the border between 64th and 65th.

People people everywhere... she knew she was in the Rukongai but did it have to have... so many people? Everywhere she looked there was another person she didn't recognize out and about getting far too close to her and she struggled to keep her unease off of her face but she was paler than usual and her eyes remained focused on the back of the lieutenant's head though despite how uncomfortable she was this wasn't stopping her training from taking in everything. She listened in on any conversations around her getting enough from what was being talked about to know if anything was relevant to anything and everything they where here to do or anything that might be of use later. She was a sponge for any information and her uncomfortable demeanor made it easier to absorb since it seemed that she wanted nothing to do with others, it made her appear as if she was paying attention to nothing because she looked to so focused on her own nervousness and social anxiety. The children that ran around them made her shrink in on herself more making her feel like she was surrounded by the little gremlins.
She pulled away from the other bits and pieces of conversations that she was listening to when she heard something strange the young voice of a girl in a blue yakata that drew her attention as the name of the lieutenant spilled from the girl's lips and her head tilted to get a better look at her as she softly chewed on her lower lip as she took in the girl's appearance and the reaction the Lieutenant had to her and Lieutenant Yasu's response told her what she needed to know, they had to be family if she still considered it her home after all.
Once they reached the home and she was introduced she would give a nod to the blue-haired girl a nervous dip of her head that likely went a bit too far to be at all comfortable and managed to pull her shoulders into the bow as well and she gave a small greeting that was hardly audible enough to be heard. She kept herself to one side of the room as the two spoke the dust that erupted into the air causing Saki to cover her mouth with the oversized sleeves of the well worn borrowed yakata to keep herself from sneezing as her eyes watered. She was able to hold it back all of two seconds before she was sent into a short fit of five consecutive sneezes into the fabric that made her give the Lieutenant an apologetic look since she was borrowing them from her she felt terrible that she had snotted all over it but she would be sure that she would have it washed thoroughly before returning it.
She listened to the two as she wiped her nose carefully much of the information shared was actually fairly helpful the people raiding other's houses and businesses sounded like they would be a good place to start for information, it was a good possibility that those doing this crime could be a lead to the escaped criminals that they needed to find and if not it was a good possibility that the Fifth seat was looking into these as well. Despite his carefree attitude she couldn't see him just sitting around and letting these things go on under his severance. So either way, it was a good way to get closer to their goal.
The instructions given would set a determined look on her face, though she wasn't exactly looking forward to walking around in a crowd for the rest of the day she would do what she had to to gain the observations that they needed. She would however avoid the woman's title even in this trusted place the habit was a difficult one to break but while they were in disguise she didn't wish to draw unwanted attention from anywhere and she knew all too well that walls had ears no matter where you were.
"Yes, Ms. Yugure."
She gave the woman a bow at her dismissal and turned to head for the door so that she could get out of the woman's way so she could do as she needed. Saki knew their code well and she was willing to do what she needed to. She glanced at Kazumi to be sure that she understood as well. She would wait until they were outside to actually speak to her though.
We may get more information if we spread out... but keep close enough to keep tabs on each other and reach the other if help is needed..."
Her words were shown to be only a suggestion in her tone after all the last thing she wanted was to feel like she was insulting Kazumi after everything that had happened. At the moment Kazumi was her superior so as far as she was concerned that meant that Kazumi ran point while they were away from the Lieutenant. Still, she would make suggestions and though she would fallow Kazumi's lead it wasn't going to be out of blind faith she would be making her own judgments on the situation as needed.

The war would continue to rage within her. This was impossible to see once they had left for the area. A pleasant and well trained smile on her face. It was impossible to tell. Experience gave her this advantage. Moving seamlessly among the crowds. Just another face. Someone content with her lot in life. One could even believe with such a smile she might be a bit simple. Which she might have began to believe herself as despite everything that had happened and been going on - she had still stashed sweets inside her borrowed clothing.
A small hand offering out a piece of candy to any child who came near enough. A kind face that put them at ease, small and round faces smiling back to her as their tiny hands accepted the gifts and giggled as they continued by. Her smiles were briefly genuine in these moments.
Despite this, the small treats required little effort, as did her false cheer. Like a swarm of snakes she let her senses slither about, touching here and there though finding nothing that seemed particularly out of place. It did comfort her some that she had learned enough control to be capable of such when before she had only been able to focus on sensing and sensing alone. Now simple activities merged with it. Perhaps had training had done some good.
The girl fast approaching them became her focus when it was obvious her intention was to approach Yasu. She looked upward, the excitement on her face obvious as she ran to the woman. At their introduction after the child had been embraced, Kazumi once more gave a broad smile as well as a deep bow, though her arm extended outward, a candy held in her flat palm for the taking. Whether it was or not she would bring her arms back to herself and give the girl another smile and bowed her head lightly when she spoke.
"Nice to meet you, Kusagi-san!"
Though a part of her behaved this way strictly for the sake of showing respect for family of Yasu's, she behaved in a dramatic and silly enough way to come across as simply playing with the girl. Like greeting a child with "princess". Outwardly, this held very little formality.
Following along once more she arrived at what had been called home. Listening to the two of them exchange words she remained standing though her posture appeared relaxed. Once more reaching out with more focus she allowed them a semblance of privacy while feeling out the area. Again there was nothing that immediately grabbed her attentions. However, Yasu speaking did. At her orders she nodded, once more giving a broad smile and a happy sounding affirmation.
"Hai hai, Yasu-san!"
The smile remaining as such until her back turned. On her exit her more casual smile had once again returned, her over the top happiness easily allowing her such formalities. Sakiko appeared to have something to say though waited until they had made their exit. Kazumi continued to walk casually about as she listened to the quiet words of the woman. She understood the almost hesitation in her voice. She supposed perhaps she didn't want to kick her while she was down.
Regardless it was a good idea and Kazumi nodded, hand returning to her side after it had passed one of her last candies to another passing child. She nodded while casually stopping and bending over, smelling at the food in the stall before her, eyes on an alley to the vendor's right. She took a few steps away toward it, hands reaching up and clasping each other behind her head as if she were disappointed in not being able to afford the food. Her faux sadness led to a grumble that appeared for herself to those around them but was directed at Sakiko.
"Aah...that sounds good..."
Glancing back as if to take a last look at the food she gave a small glance to Sakiko to ensure she understood before turning back toward the alley, kicking at the ground as she walked away.
Now alone she patted at her midsection lightly. The tight wire wrapped around her waist beneath the shabby cord on her disguise had coiled tighter around her since the moment she had known she would be walking this place once more possibly facing death. However, the tight squeeze of the metal held her firmly in reminder.
You are never alone.
This was the truth.
