In the eyes of the
Bengoshi, anyone seen or caught performing an act of suspicious or illegal activity must be apprehended and tried in the eyes of the law. The duties and responsibilities that come along with the title of adjudicator and the divisional mission to uphold a certain honor and decorum among all Shinigami and Souls alike to further the cycle of reproduction within the Soul Society, come with a certain weight. The men and women of Sixth can be seen as balancers, justice hunting jackals who are in the right place at the right time, depending on the situation however those scales could change fairly quickly in either good or evil’s favor. This was an overall strange day for the seasoned shinigami, walking the Captain Commander to be tried in the eyes of his other superiors. The Central Forty-Six. Then dastardly energy led him to a Black Coffin Funeral only to find his oldest school friend at the base of the incident with particularly strange behaviour. He did not revel in this catch, he in fact somewhat loathed his sense of duty but knew that if he felt like this that this was the right decision, a slight
shred of doubt lingered in his brain but for his entire life he may never understand why he chose such a deathly Kido...
“
Another strike in the column…” he thought. As one of the jackals he had a high apprehension rate among those in the Sixth’ Barracks, always exceeding quota and displaying his other talents such as sleuthing and precise deduction, it was safe to say that the Kiyoshi was as reliable as you could get as far as the Shinigami were concerned. At first he assumed the feelings he’d have would be a somber wrench in the belly, watching his friend being carded off after apprehending him under the strong suspicion of illegal activity, he knew there could only be a singular place to hold him, that wasn’t within the confines of his own barracks. Requiring a more
permanent residence for Enso Aikawa, Shusuke knew that regardless of whether or not the firing of a Level Ninety Hado for
”educational” purposes is strictly frowned upon and that the decision to utilize resulted in the deaths of three unsuspecting officers which is indeed illegal. Accidental or not this is a potential manslaughter case, furthermore, a Kido with the level beyond seventy should never be utilized in combat with a fellow Shinigami. Judging by the look and size of the black monstrosity it had a spoken incantation which enhanced its capabilities.
He thought the events out and replayed them within his mind over and over again to see if there was a detail he had missed, a clue that went unchecked, a small glimmer of doubt that did not pin this on his close friend. Alas, he couldn’t find a single ounce of doubt within his bones and allowed his veterans instinct to take root at the center of the crime rather than his need to be a friend at this particular time. He scanned the blank faces before him, the brood he used to be a part of. Clad in black and faces as blank as unblemished paper, their identities sealed, their conviction solid, these were the ilk that made up the Second Division. Hard to think that he was once a member of this depressing group of shinigami, he did however think them to be some of the most skilled Shinigami to have around. Unable to make out their faces, he felt like he had met one or two prior to their silencing. He heard that the Phantom has them move in silence in all their walks of life save for a select few, it was also at this moment Shusuke was particularly glad to have made the transfer to the Sixth Division before the Phantom shrouded the Second.
Sora quickly removed the weapon from Enso’s possession and placed him further in the care of the Onmitsukido, he would slowly no longer be their problem or any problem going forward.
Shortly thereafter, a body slithered from the dark depths of the forest that surrounded the small clearing before the iron gate that led to the Nest. It wouldn’t be your average reptile however, it indeed was a humanoid body performing a creepy act of hospitality. Without turning his head upon hearing the sound emanate behind him, he waited patiently to allow the man to speak before completely leaving Enso behind bars.
”So, this is Enso Aikawa. Your suspect, your monster you'd have us cage. Another maggot to join the nest.”
He spoke softly, the full enunciation with every word he spoke near borderlined on a hiss as if a gardener snake just came out of its hiding spot. Making his way into Shusuke’s full peripheral and speaking rather formally to the Shinigami it begged the question; had they met before? Surely it had been some time since he last had been a member of Second. No one would likely remember him very well as he was a much younger man in those days. His eyes were obstructed yet he knew that he could see him better than he would let on, maybe even better. His voice was unrecognizable and the mannerisms were unfamiliar, he would not remember this man even if they had met. Formalities far gone, business must be done. The hiss would soon be replaced by a stern and final instruction and warning.
”You understand, by bringing him here to us instead of one of your own holding cells, that whatever your investigation unveils...good or bad is meaningless to him now."
He left a pause. Did he think he was an idiot? Regardless of whatever Shusuke finds, he expected Enso to be detained within these dark halls indefinitely. His behaviour was reckless and albeit alarming given the stance he had portrayed for these many years. Shusuke simply said nothing.
”Yes...of course you know. The Kido that you've cast on him, undo it. He's in our care now.”
Finally he was starting to make some sense. Without another word, Shusuke took his place in front of Enso for the last time and waved his hands over the wrists of the apprehended then without looking into the shinigami's eyes he bid him farewell with a nod and walked back to stand with his squad. A sudden rustling from the background would begin, his eyes quickly diverted to the location of the sound which was near thirty five degrees behind his head. He remembered not to even touch the hilt of his blade but he readied his hands to perform whatever action that he may have required the most. The body would appear, holding his hand up in surrender. How boring. He let out a small breath and loosened himself once more, however he may have needed to brace for the news that was about to befall his ears.
”Third Seat, Shusuke Kiyoshi. You have been summoned by Head Lieutenant Oki of the First Division. Your escort is awaiting you at the barrack doors. Finish accordingly.”
He looked on in perplexity. He had just come from the First Division hours ago. But to be summoned by the Head Lieutenant...He wondered if this had anything to do with the purple anomaly in the sky when he had finally taken Enso into detainment...An eerie sign for sure. Which means the reasoning behind this summons could only bode disaster. Seems to be the perfect day for it, death included. There would be nothing left the Sereitei could do to surprise him. Or was he wrong? After digesting the information, he looks onto the Second division staff and then the informant of his new directive. He was done here, so he needed to now see what was going on with the First Division but not before imparting a few words of his own.
”Alright then. But I don't need a babysitter, I’ll see myself and my team over there without haste, let the Head Lieutenant know that I will be arriving shortly.” he then looked over to Sora, then nodded to Hideaki who would then take off to answer the call of the Tenteikura distress message from the lieutenant of the Second Division. He doubted anyone would stop him.
”Sora, you’re with me. I'm guaranteed to need a second pair of eyes for this. Now however will be the time where you’ll need to keep up with me though.”
With that final word, he took off in the direction of the First Division barracks. Picking up speed with every step, he finally allowed his full mastery of shunpo to be displayed taking off in a blink and would soon cover the distance between the entrance to the maggots nest to the entrance of the Second Divisions barracks, rocketeing past the escort party, he looked back at them with a sly grin only to dig deeper into the concrete and enhance the distance further with his fleet foot. He hoped Sora wouldn’t be completely alarmed, but he hoped as time would go on he would learn in time that there are certain tones to news that are being brought to your immediate attention. These would be one of those times, and you must act on it swiftly. He figured that he would start by investigating the Central Forty Six chambers seeing as how they are on the way and would be the place that the purple lightning anomaly seemed to have been closing in on. Which was also the last place the Captain-Commander was coincidentally.
”This is already shaping to smell like shit…” was all he could think.
