“Aha-! Young Maho, it’s good to see you too, hmph. And huh.. I guess you didn’t?”
Good, he remembers. So he hasn't gone senile then. Yu did his job.
“Eh.. It was much needed. Can’t have an old man like me out of practice for too long.”
Maho's Inquiry was answered fairly quickly. It seemed the old man took on the fresh challenge fine, at least physically. Who knew if there was some unknown mental tole. Most wouldn't give that any mind.
“Hm. He’s not as elusive and annoying as you were but, an admirable foe nonetheless. You’ve just been wandering about this whole time?”
"Wow, so you not senile enough to remember to bring that up.
He smacks his hand on the floor, then returns to a relaxed posture, crossing his arms over his chest. Still seated, the young captain exhales. He remains here, silent for a time, finding what words he could say, if he could even muster up the effort to say them.
"Honestly...
I've been out the game too. It's only today that I finally accepted any of those cheap forms of healing. Omoni San got me good..."
He sighs softly, inhaling more smoke. "I felt a little out of it, because of back then. Somehow living with that physical pain made it feel like I made amends in some way.
Maybe...
If I had come up with something else
been stronger
faster
you wouldn't have gone under for so long...."
He raises his hand to his face and takes the cigar in between his digits. Smoke wafts and trails through the open air, freely. Like dense clouds, these strands would only dissipate long after he has left the room.
"Matter fact...Walk with me. Something tells me there is something you are going to want to see. I sent Jiro on a little quest for me.
An alert sounds in his pocket.
"And it sounds like the truth is running today."
"He bolts onto his feet and cruises out of Higen's Living space. Expecting him to follow at some point, if he so chose, he would lead him along into his own division courtyard. Flocks of tenth division members seemingly jutting about in a good mood. They were hard at work, in an almost celebratory fashion. It almost warmed his heart.
"I thought I had a lot of stuff I wanted to say. To ask. But seeing you walking around as proudly as the day you went down has made me lose the words entirely."
However,
Eventually...
...I do want you to tell me...
What was it like up there?"
He hopes there is no need to explain any more what he meant, yet in order to cement this hope, he continues.
"You know; the Kokotsu.
I didn't look away...
not even for a second."
Maho steps out into the Barracks of the 10th, out into the open streets of the Southwest Seireitei. He walks with a casual glide, in no rush or hurry, but with a destination in mind.
"Its gon' take more than a glorified light-show like that to deter the eyes of The Dragon. I saw the skies blacken, then shatter. I honestly cannot explain what my eyes saw in detail. I literally do not have them' words."
He takes out his Denreishinki and taps away at the screen as he speaks, offering moments of silence so that his fellow Captain can respond. A new post arrives from his third seat. It reads,
Unlucky Cat Today — Location: Sixth Division.
It seems like things are getting worse by second. With the cooperation of Second, Sixth, and others are coordinating to respond to the emergency. Guess what?? There's some liquid that looks familiar, it gotta be Yasu Chan's ability, so she is within the barrier and I don't know who else is inside. But it seems that by what Katsuo getting arrested had claimed that the third seat of the 13th Division and Captain of the Fifth Division is trapped inside the barrier with Yasu.
Captain Maho, the bottom line is. Things are getting worse. They're even arresting Katsuo Oda and others from the 13th Division for attempting to go inside. Furthermore, the arrests of those shinigami must mean that someone is taking control of the situation and demanding no one interfere.
He reads the message and goes through the events once more. Yasu seemed to be a consistent name popping up. Where was her Captain? Maho knew of his overprotective nature when it came to that pink-haired brat. Meaning, that if the ninth division knew of her arrest, it would not be long until her Captain knew as well. What's more, is that that fresh Captain Oda was involved. Fates wheels churned often, but rarely as perfect as today. With so many different cogs moving in the same direction, there had to be something important going on near involving the 5th, 6th and 2nd divisions. There had also been mentions of the Kuchiki's as well. Still...there were a few more dots to place before he could determine anything concrete.
"If that's too much for you to dive into than I don't mind waiting" Implying that at some point the aged Captain would have to tell him. Which of course he did not. This was hardly a possibility for Maho. He would have his answers.
"Regardless, there seems to be something happening in the Soul Society today. And by something I mean a whole heap of shit. Just today I watched Jinosuke challenge Lt. Ueki for the right to be Lieutenant. And on my way here, I saw a large enough barrier cast over near the royal houses. Now, the last time there was a barrier, Second Division was running amok. So that's already settling. What are they trying to hide? And why are Shinigami being arrested?
i'll be damned if anybody tries that bullshit on ME. Tuh!"
He stops and gives Higen a glance, the two still several city blocks away from their destination, though already Maho can detect numerous signatures of spiritual pressure, most easy to make out. They are getting close.
Jiro has reported something along the lines of royal affairs and the arrest of the Second Division Lieutenant. As well as Named mentions of that new Captain inside. Seems he's having quite the first day as well..."
His eyes peer upward into the open air, the sky is devoid of clouds, barren and vast. A strange wind courses through the air, ruffling his locs and picking up the back of his Haori. It is a chilling breeze despite the warmth of the day.
"With all that being said,
Something tells me...
that the wheels of fate turn on us once more.
Even without being able to see his eyes, Higen can feel the intensity coming from him. At the very least, Higen's unknown unease about the day was shared by Maho and his information would undoubtedly cement this feeling. or so he believes. With that being said,
The Dragon and the Shining Knight were but a few paces from their destination, Close enough that within a number of minutes they would arrive. Far enough away and at a pace that the two could have a conversation undisturbed.
