”What is this..”
Nozamu Kyōraku a senior research member of the twelfth division, a man who has uncovered some of the darkest secrets of Hell, was able to create his own variation of an ancient teleportation device using scraps that saved his entire research team from a realm no one knew existed and someone who’s research and teachings were able to bring forth an entire generation of kido users due to how much he was able to simplify it; not even he was able to figure out what Jinan Kyōraku, his Great-Grandfather the highest ranking member of the Kyōraku family had sent him. It had been well over a decade since he had seen any of his relatives and for the most important one of all to send him a rather large package was quite the shock to him, especially since it was in an old mahogany chest with the family’s crest placed upon it. Were they kicking him out and this was all the stuff they were able to find that were his? Or were they simply just sending him things since they had not seen him for awhile? There were plenty more theories that popped into his mind, but he knew that none of them were going to be right as Jinan was one of the few people who were able to go above and beyond Nozamu’s expectations, no matter how high or low he set them. The only way to figure out was by reading the letter that came with the package, a letter enclosed in an envelope with the family’s crest placed upon it in a wax seal as well.
”Nozamu Kyōraku, the elders of the manor have caught wind of your amazing deeds and your chance to become a Captain of the Gotei 13, a feat which no Kyōraku has done since Shunsui himself. We understand that many years ago we shunned you entering back into our home, so we understand why you have not come home for quite awhile, but know that we are proud to have you among us. In this chest is a family relic that has not seen the light of day since Shunsui Kyōraku departed from our world into the next, we ask that you wear it during your captain’s test so that it may bring you good fortune and allow me to take the chance to say this, not as an elder of the family, but your Great-Grandfather.. I love you, Nozamu.”
Nozamu’s contact covered eyes began to close as he finished reading the letter his great grandfather had given him, ever since his wife and daughter died, he has not heard those three words that used to mean so much to him, but at this point in time he felt absolutely nothing from them except pain and regret. Taking a look at the chest which they had given him, there was only one thing that could be inside, taking the key that came with it and placing it into the lock, Nozamu was going to slowly lift the lid of the chest in order to reveal a rather feminine, pink and flowery kimono that seemed to actually be the perfect size for him. Lifting it out of the chest he was going to stare at it closely, inspecting each detail that laid inside, he knew it belonged to Shunsui oh so many years ago and shunsui wasn’t just any ordinary captain, no he was the former Captain Commander similar to Kashuke and the current Captain Commander himself, was he really deserving to wear such an item? Even if the answer was no, it was too late at this point, swinging it in the air the kimono was going to twirl and contort like a dancer that was spinning gracefully, until it finally came back down to land on his shoulders, it was a perfect fit.
”Thank you, Jinan..
Approximately one full hour before the battle between Nozamu and Kyomu was meant to begin, Nozamu had done something that as far as he knew was different from every other member of the Gotei 13 that wished to become a Captain and that was rather than entering the Valley of Screams with his opponent by his side, he decided to go alone to prep the battlefield. He knew if he went into a head on head conflict without any preparation with Captain Kyomu, he was more than likely going to end up on the wrong side of his blade, especially since the man was trained to kill other Shinigami more than any other person in the Gotei. Every record that there was on Kyomu, Nozamu had already analyzed and put himself through rigorous training with, thanks all the artificial technology the twelfth division had at this point. Captain Kyomu was a high profile threat, if Nozamu wanted to win he had to make sure the battlefield played in his favor, at first he did a few simple things that did not take long, placing a five inflatable gigais in the crevices of the valley which were all connected and able to expand at the simple press of a button on his Denrishiki X and around twelve artificial Hell Butterflies placed in an dome-like formation that were connected to his Genshigan, allowing for him to have full sight of Kyomu from every angle and thanks to them being connected to his Genshigan, he was able to filter the type of sight he wished to view them in, including his special reiryoku vision which was able to see through most, if not all physical objects.
As tactical as this might have seemed, Nozamu continued running the numbers through his head, he understood this was nowhere near enough for him to have a so called advantage, from all the research he did on Kyomu he knew that he was indeed precision incarnate as rather than hold enough raw power to pummel a mountain, he instead would be able to pinpoint the weaknesses in the Mountain’s foundations, place all the necessary precautions in order to avoid being seen or heard by said mountain and then strike every single point at once with such power, speed and precision that it never knew it even happened. So Nozamu went on, placing a variation of Millón Escudo on his back, rather than have it be a small specific place on his back though, it was enlarged so that it covered his entire back, allowing him to have some protection there in case Kyomu’s speed ended up being too much for him. Another thing he did was make sure that his single Kunai which he kept hidden in his lab-coat was imbued with Kyūjūrokkei Kakafūmetsu, an advanced seal which was able to place the likes of a hogyoku-infused being within’ it, while this was a powerful tool at his disposal, it let off a harsh red glow which made it quite obvious it was not something anyone wanted to be cut or stabbed with, but due to the way he had it concealed, Kyomu would not know immediately. That was most likely the last thing that Nozamu was able to do before his opponent’s arrival as he wanted to make sure he did it without draining too much reiryoku too soon and it paid off as he still felt his reserves have plenty in them.
Listen and Read
Releasing a sigh from his lips, Nozamu was going to do his best to calm down his ever beating heart that was finally beginning to understand the situation at hand, this was his life’s work on the line in more than one way, if he did not become the Captain of the Twelfth Division, then everything he had done this far was for not. Watching the paper gates of the Senkaimon appear then slide open to reveal a bright heavenly light was enough to make his fears grow even more for a split second, but once he was finally going to see the man he was facing, it’d all disappear. Not for the fact that he’d be shorter or taller than he once thought, but rather because he’d know it was time to fight, all of his fears, all of his doubts, all of his worries that might have ever existed began to wash away in a sudden rush of adrenaline. Moving his hand down to his left side he was going to grab ahold of one of the two blades that were there, specifically the green one known as Yawaraki-Te that once belonged to his daughter many years ago, she was with him in this test. As his contact covered eyes stared down his opponent, the Genshigan was going to do its job and begin analyzing every aspect of Kyomu, creating scans that’d show a three dimensional model of his body and analyze it to find any weak points that might exist on him, or his blade or any piece of clothing he might’ve been wearing. Deep down he knew none of that mattered though as this was a man of skill, who was prepared to make the silent kill, so Nozamu himself had to be ready to kill, now he began to draw his daughter’s sword, revealing its clean steel blade and held it tightly with his right hand at his side.
”The Red Haired Demon against The One Who Wears Death, I’m not going to lie Captain I believe that deserves to be on the Seireitei Communication Column, but I feel like they’re going to have to write it in a more epic fashion than how this is going to play out.."
