Notable Features: When people catch sight of Kagewaki they take notice of his appearance with the dark skin, shoulder-length raven-hair and glowing golden eyes. He has long sideburns, joining his hair to his prominent goatee, which takes the form of several triangles pointing downwards and extending upwards on his chin. And the way he always looks people straight into their eyes when he speaks to them as if he's digging into their minds. Sometimes wears some type of jewelry as a pair of golden bracelets. And over the usual shinigami uniform he wears a black haori and a matching black turban that covers most of his head.
Personality: A thief among thieves, Kagewaki is a very mysterious man with a dark past. He grew up in the criminal streets of District 78 Inuzuri (戌吊, Howling Dog; Viz "Hanging Dog") at the South Rukongai. He survived by stealing food and water from others who lived there and in the beginning he was often captured and beaten — more times than he could count. A life that they, in the better districts could never imagine, but so is life in the more dangerous areas.
Over the years, Kagewaki became faster, quieter and smarter in the art of stealing. He became a thief of the highest quality and instead of hating his childhood he embraced the life he got and made the best of it. He started stealing from the better districts and his reputation and confidence grew with each robbery.
Not only is Kagewaki a thief in his own league, he is a very smart man who knows what to do to avoid being caught. One way he does this is by donating the stolen food to those who are as poor, if not poorer than him. He claims to do this not out of pure kindness but to keep the people on his side and that those who are looking for him are always sent in the wrong direction away from him.He also shows skill as a leader over the thieves who look up to and follow him. Although the thieves are people he cares about, he sees everything that belongs to him as a treasure. If any of the thieves get caught, he steals the person back because his life belongs to him. Since he lived a poor life, he is very careful about his belongings and refuses to lose any of them.
As Corps Commander of the Inner Court Troops, Kagewaki treats his subordinates in a similar light. As they serve under him they are his treasures, and as his treasures, none are allowed to touch them without his permission. He acts with an air of indifference to those who do not interest him, as he's always done whatever he so desires; it is a habit that remains unchanged.
He has very little trust in others, even the thieves who admire him greatly because he always follows a code among his group, 'a thief is always a thief' and that makes Kagewaki a very careful man. Even around Kyomu Mukuro and the others in the 2nd Division and Onmitsukidō, Kagewaki is careful and always ready to fight because he thinks that any day they can try to throw him in jail.
Yes, a dark and hard childhood shaped Kagewaki into the man he is today.
Relatives: Unknown mother and father. (deceased †), adoptive grandmother/teacher (deceased †)
Kagewaki has no memory of his parents but he got food and a roof over the head from an elderly lady in his district until he turned 11 when she also passed away. And this older lady was the one who taught him the basics of being a thief.
Reiryoku Level: Great Spiritual Power-
As a child Kagewaki possessed an average level of Spiritual Power that was not anything fancy. But over the years this changed and the man's Spiritual Power grew almost as fast as his reputation. When first meeting Kyomu, he already had a considerable amount of spiritual power, rivaling that of a lieutenant level shinigami. After being (forcefully) recruited and subsequently forced into the Shin'ō Academy he had no choice but to train in the four major Shinigami combat forms further honing his skills and abilities. That he did learn pretty fast even for someone who has not been there for a long period. By the time Kyomu had returned to retrieve Kagewaki from the Academy, his spiritual power had grown close to or at the same level of an average Captain ranked shinigami.
Sensing Reiryoku: Master
A long time before Kagewaki became a Shinigami was he sensitive to the reiatsu of those around him at a very young age. This made the young thief able to know if someone chased him during the time in the streets. And his skills did not change for several years before he started studying in the academy, and then he honed and sharpened his abilities to use Reikaku (霊覚, "Spiritual Sense"), or Reiatsu Chikaku (霊圧知覚, "Spiritual Pressure Perception") on a higher level. Now with his Sensory knowledge and skills, Kagewaki is able to use it for his life as a thief too able to fully see the characters, their strength and reiatsu level along with their belongings, making it easy to pick his targets if they have anything of value on them.
His skills of sensing is something not only used for being the perfect thief but also for combat use. Able to detect attacks from enemies fast and able to counter so quickly that the ones he fights often believe that Kagewaki can predict the future.
Reiryoku Control: Great Control-
At the academy Kagewaki was considered a genius among the rest, showing remarkable control over his Reiryoku (霊力, Spiritual Power). While running through the streets of the Rukongai, he was already able to subconsciously skillfully and carefully utilize his reiryoku to steal from others at a distance. With time and after years of hard training, Kagewaki became able to stop his Reiryoku from "pouring out" from his body and in that way continue to remain 'invisible' from others during missions. Something very useful while spending time in the Rukongai Districts.
Reiatsu: Expert-
Kagewaki's Reiatsu level is something that many would call ''unique'' because of his short time at the Academy. During his tenure at the academy Kagewaki gained considerable interest in his studies regarding Reiatsu (霊圧, Spiritual Pressure) similar to his interest in his studies of Reiryoku (霊力, Spiritual Power). Surprised and curious about the many ways that the released Reiryoku from the inside could be used as Reiatsu.
By focusing the Spiritual Power and controlling it to a single part of the body like the middle of his palm, Kagewaki can produce a strong repulsive force by just releasing the focused spiritual power in a wave of Spiritual Pressure in a straight line. Although he can do this with the whole body, the way of using it with only a single part of the body will reduce the amount of Spiritual Power that is needed.
Reiatsu Color: Orange
Reiatsu Shape:
The shape of Kagewaki’s Reiatsu has been said to manifest itself as an aura of just pure heat but when more Reiryoku is released the Reiatsu change from being just warm and take the shape of what appears to be flickering flames that surrounds his body. As his spiritual pressure swells and grows stronger the flames around Kagewaki also grow until they begin to morph and shape themselves into the head of a jackal with glowing red eyes.
The heat from Kagewaki's Reiatsu also affects his surroundings and can be felt from afar.
Reiatsu Effect(s):
Heat & Amnesia
When Kagewaki's burning Reiatsu reaches its peak, it has the ability to almost incinerate everything that is consumed by it. The heat and flames from the Reiatsu are intense enough to create third degree burns. But when the Reiatsu has not reached its peak, it only gives off a strong heat. Above even this however is a certain peculiarity regarding his reiatsu. Usually only felt by those with weaker spiritual pressure than himself, those within its presence subconsciously block the Phantom Thief from not only their senses, but memory as well. It is believed this is part of the reason that helped him earn his moniker — despite the intimidating aura in which it exudes, those victims of his thievery who have come into contact with him within the Rukongai districts cannot recall his face or any defining features of him. When combined with his flame like reiatsu, Kagewaki produces special flames that burn away at both the flesh and the mind — his flames gaining the ability to burn away the memories of others. Those with stronger and better control over their reiatsu are able to resist this phenomenon of his.
Reiatsu Type: Element Type- Fire
Zanjutsu Level: Expert Swordsman-
Even before starting his career as a Shinigami (死神, death god(s); Viz "Soul Reaper(s)") Kagewaki was skilled in the art Bukijutsu (武器術, Literally meaning: Weapon Techniques). Probably the best in his district of those who did not have any formal training in it.
In the category shurikenjutsu (手裏剣術, Literally meaning: sword hidden in the hand techniques) have Kagewaki proven himself to be a master. Throwing daggers, shuriken and long needles with almost perfect aim and accuracy.
When he is wielding a sword Kagewaki has shown to be very skilled and would even say that the blade is the most common weapon for the people at his district when they using Kenjutsu (剣術, Literally meaning: Sword Technique). In the past, Kagewaki often drowned his weapon in some form of flammable liquid or powder that he could use to his advantage. And also able to perform attacks with a very good precision and stop them in an instant.
Although he is the king of thieves, Kagewaki does not look down on the noisy method of Kayakujutsu (火薬術, literally "the art of gunpowder"). It's something that has actually helped him more than many people think. Through it, Kagewaki has created several openings against his opponents by drawing their attention to the sound or damage that has happened elsewhere because of it.
He arrived at the Academy against his will by Kyumo and at there he had to learn the Zanjutsu (斬術, Swordsmanship; Viz "Art of the Sword") taught by the instructors and his use of swords became even deadlier and more dangerous because of it. He arrived at the academy having already had unlocked his shikai from the Asauchi (浅打, Shallow Hit) he stole years ago from a patrolling shinigami. Though he had acquired the form of shikai he didn't have full knowledge of his shikai's powers because of the problem of communicating with his Zanpakutō's Spirit. But one teacher told him about Jinzen (刃禅, Sword Meditation; Viz ``Sword Zen") and Kagewaki was told that Jinzen is the only way to carry on a proper conversation with his Zanpakutō. After having only briefly heard of the technique and practicing it once, Kagewaki became familiar with it. Once fully understanding the form, and capabilities of his shikai, he became a much deadlier force.
Known Techniques: Senmaioroshi
Hitotsume Nadegiri
Onibi
Hohō Level: Shunpo Master-.
A very long time before Kagewaki became a Shinigami, he was already fast enough to be called the fastest non-shinigami resident within the entire Rukongai. The methods used by Kagewaki were different from the rest, the surroundings and the people of the district always became part of his movement. Considered being the fastest, Kagewaki was no match against those who used Hohō (歩法, Step Method; Viz "Fast Movement") but the risk of him facing one using it so far into Rukongai was a very little chance.
If it had not been for Kyumo showing mercy and seeing the potential of Kagewaki, he would for sure have killed the thief on the spot. At the time at the Academy , Kagewaki learned the basics very quickly which surprised his teacher because he came from the slums of Rukongai. The other practitioners at the Academy looked down on him for not needing to be tested for the entrance exam. And for Kyumo taking Kagewaki to the place made it look almost like a joke that someone from the street with no goal to become a shinigami like the rest of them. Most of the other student's underestimated Kagewaki for not having this goal but his skills with Hohō did slowly give him their respect. Even if he used it the wrong way by stealing their food when it was lunch, it is the only way Kagewaki knew how to survive. Before Kyumo came back to retrieve the man, his knowledge and skill increased to the ranks of even seasoned expert practitioners. Kagewaki's way of using shunpo is very unique for using the knowledge from the street alongside it to make ways that others would not even think of doing.
After years of training under the Phantom Walker, Kyomu himself made Kagewaki reach a speed that could almost match the speed of his teacher. With very little effort he can cross tremendous distances, from the barracks of the 2nd division to the high numbered districts in Rukongai with one or two steps. Kagewaki has more or less copied most he can from Kyumo, able to out run his own shadow, become invisible leaving no trace of his presence, and creating near tangible after images.
The favorite way to show the speed Kagewaki possess is while he uses speed clones/afterimages that mimic every movement. By moving between his afterimages, and delivering attacks from each of them, each of them appearing to gain mass behind them. This Confuses his target(s), making them think that the afterimages are actually clones but when the afterimages are attacked, he moves out of the way, letting his opponent's attack go through one of his afterimages.
Known Techniques:
Speed Clones, Utsusemi, Hiari,Hotaru, Nukiashi
Hakuda Level: Expert Hakuda Combatant-
Kagewaki has had to use his body to defend himself since he started stealing things to survive. Life as a thief is not something beautiful and especially not when you get caught, in the eyes of one who has been robbed the age of a thief is a small thing. Every time he was caught as a child, Kagewaki was beaten until he could no longer walk and it created a desire not only to avoid capture but also to be able to defend himself if it ever happens again. The desire led him to start training physically and build himself a body that could take a beating, the training also built up the speed that he uses for hand to hand combat and stealing.
Over the years he became known for being a man who never went down in a street fight. Even though a thief stays in the shadows and doesn't want to be seen, it sometimes happened that Kagewaki actually showed up to the people. But those occasions were only when someone damaged his belongings (hurt the thieves who worked for him) and for it revenge was the only answer.
His tactics when it comes to hand to hand combat are acrobatic and complex maneuvers, often involving hands on the ground and inverted kicks. It emphasizes flowing movements rather than fixed stances and it looks more like a dance then a way of fighting.
Known Techniques: Panty-Flash Tornado, Chōhigezutsuki, Sandbag Beat
Kido Skill Level: Kidō Specialist-
During his time at the academy, Kagewaki showed little skill in Kido. With no desire to actually learn any it made this his weakest among the combat forms. He was forced to learn some because of the teachers even if he tried to avoid the lessons from them.
The lowest of kido's were the only ones Kagewaki managed to learn to use without incantations. When the number goes up over 30 it becomes a 50/50 chance for it to work even with the incantation for the spell, as some will explode on him indiscriminately.
Known Spells:
• Bakudō (縛道, Way of Binding): •
Sai, Hainawa, Seki
• Hadō (破道, Way of Destruction): •
Shō, Byakurai, Tsuzuri Raiden, Shakkahō
Skills and Abilities:
•Master Thief: Kagewaki is no simple pickpocket, bandit or hoodlum he’s a thief, the King of thieves. The top of his league, there is no thief before him or present that surpasses his thievery, and none who shall come after him. A master of sleight of hand, he’s able to enter and search the pockets of those standing and chatting next to him, slip rings off fingers, necklaces from around necks, bracelets from around wrists, and swords from one’s side without the other party or any surrounding bystander being any the wiser.
•Stealth Master: As a professional thief, his line of work requires a certain level of subterfuge and anonymity. Kagewaki, despite his appearance, is able to easily get lost in a crowd, becoming anonymous at the drop of a dime, as if vanishing into thin air. Capable of tailing a person for hours on end without ever being spotted or noticed, and escaping from what many would believe to be inescapable places or situations.
Equipment: Tsūdentō (通伝刀, Transmittal Blades), Denreishinki X, Flash Bangs
Inventions:
Zokukasō (賊仮相,lit. "Thief Phenomenon") — The apex of Kagewaki's reiryoku control. Kagewaki manipulates the shape of his reiryoku, stretching and extending it out like a viscous thread or invisible hand. Kagewaki uses this ability to steal and pull things from a distance, leaving his unsuspecting victims none the wiser. He is precise enough to ease into pockets without others feeling a thing, and observant enough with his reikaku to sever the thread the moment one's suspicions begin to rise. From an outsider's perspective it is often seen as a form of telekinesis, that is...until the object becomes camouflaged and hidden by his spiritual pressure — essentially becoming cloaked from view. Kagewaki is able to use this technique to not only pull at others, forcing opponent's closer or off balance, tugging allies out of harm's way, but can even pull himself; latching on to distant objects to catapult his body mid-movement.
Zanpakuto Name: Mujintō (無人島, “Desert island”)
Zanpakuto Appearance:
Mujintō in its sealed state takes the appearance of an Egyptian sickle-sword that is 50–60 cm (20–24 inches) in length. The handle of the sword is gold and blue with a hook that bends in the same direction as the blade does. And the guard above the handle takes the appearance of what appears to be an egyptian scarab with the wings out, having the same colors as the handle. Kagewaki wears his Zanpakuto tied to his obi sash under his black haori, keeping its unique sealed state hidden from peoples eyes.
Zanpakuto Spirit:
Mujintō's physical form manifests as a man clad in gold armor bearing the menacing head of a jackal with glowing eyes of crimson. Standing nearly ten feet tall, Mujintō towers over Kagewaki at all times. His appearance bears an uncanny resemblance to Anubis, the god of the dead in egyptian lore — and like Anubis, Mujintō believes himself to be, and carries himself as a god. The massive scope of the desert world is dwarfed a thousand times over by the spirit’s ego and arrogance. As a god, he stands above things like jokes, and sarcasm. Despite being the spirit of Kagewaki’s zanpakuto, born from his soul, he sees himself not as Kagewaki’s partner, tool or subordinate but as his superior. Though Kagewaki has gained access to shikai, Mujintō will never admit it is from being bested or forced into submission. If anything, he believes that as a god it is only natural that he bestow a modicum of power to his servant and vessel — a sign of his grace. Beneath all this Mujintō is no fool, and understands the relationship between Zanpakuto and wielder, knowing that his fate is ultimately tied to the fate of Kagewaki, the one chosen to wield him and his power. Still...Mujintō cannot help but wish that he had another “partner”, a vessel that sees him as the god that he is and treats him as such.
Inner World:
A vast and seemingly endless desert, covered with crimson sand cooked beneath a scorching sun that never sets. There exists no trees, no bushes, no source of shade to shield one from the sun’s fury. This is Kagewaki’s inner world. The sand itself seems to sizzle with an unnatural heat, and each time Kagewaki enters the world, he does so absent of any socks or shoes — forced to brave the desert sands completely barefoot. As Kagewaki wanders through the desert, he endures the sun bearing down on him from overhead, while feet carry him across endless burning sands. It is easy for one to become lost in this world, the heat enough to drive one to madness. Enduring the torment as one treks through the desert brings them to a giant pyramid believed to rest at the heart of the desert. It is here that the spirit of Mujintō resides, in wait for the one who wields him.
Reaching the pyramid however, is NOT the end of the journey. It's inside a massive labyrinth, with many walls, many halls, and many steps. The walls are decorated with hieroglyphics, images depicting the clashes and interactions between Zanpakuto and Master, between Kagewaki and Mujintō. When Kagewaki’s heart is disturbed, the sun sets and night consumes the desert, the temperature dropping considerably. Inside the pyramid, its walls, steps and ceilings become fragile, falling and collapsing around him.
Release Phrase:
"Scorch, Mujintō"
Shikai:
In its Shikai,Mujintō does not change very much as it stays with the khopesh style of sword but with a new style to it. The handle turns black and decorated with pale gold and the hook that used to be at the lower part of the it moves to the handle's top. The blade itself appears obsidian in color with what appears to be electrum inlays at first glance within the center of the blade. Unlike the blade’s generic counterparts, the entirety of its blade’s edge is incredibly sharp.
Shikai Special Ability:
The curved and almost Axe-like design of his shikai makes it the formidable weapon in terms of melee combat. It strikes, heavy. Its edge, vorpal in nature, and its power….DEADLY. It isn’t until Kagewaki chooses to invoke the ability of his zanpakuto does one realize that what was once believed to be electrum inlays is in fact, something else entirely. Nenshō Suna (燃焼砂, "Burning Sand") is the name given to Mujintō’s power. Sand flows almost ceaselessly from the center of the blade, guided shaped and directed by Kagewaki’s will. The grains of sand capable of grating flesh upon contact, drilling through most solid surfaces with enough force and grabbing and pulling on people and objects like. It forces opponent’s to be wary of the still present and swinging blade of his shikai, while simultaneously being on guard for the flowing sand — and still, one remains ignorant of the true threat and power of his shikai. The sand produced by Mujintō is superheated, searing to the touch. One may be led to believe the purpose of this “Burning Sand” is to do just that, burn. They would be incorrect.
The sand’s purpose is to soak and absorb the moisture from anything it makes contact with. When used on a living, breathing opponent it causes them to wither away through dehydration, essentially leaving them in a mummified state. Rocks and land crumbles into dust and sand, showcasing the power and lethality of the blade. It is due to the desiccating powers of his shikai that Kagewaki earned the epithet Kansō-ki, the Desiccator.
Personal Relationships:
•Kyomu Mukuro - The commander-in-chief of the Onmitsukidō and the captain of the 2nd Division in the Gotei 13. Kagewaki has a slight hatred towards the man but at the same time he does respect Kyumo very much. Not hesitating to argue with his captain the slightest and on the other hand there is no hesitating when he receives an order. They have a mutual respect for each other and Kagewaki sees Kyumo as a rival because he is the only one who actually caught the KING of thieves.
•Yasu Yagure - Not much can be said about the 2nd Division lieutenant, nothing bad and nothing good. She has shown Kagewaki a neutral side only. When the two meet, they showed no hatred for each other and actually greet each other like ordinary people. During his first year they actually exchanged sweets with each other and have had a few moments when they talked about candy's.
•Sakiko Nakama - In Kagewaki's eyes, Sakiko is the closest he came to a friend and even if she complains and whines on him most of the time he holds her as high if not higher than his workers out on the street. And just like the thieves under Kagewaki, he does his best to not let her come to harm by handing her simple missions to keep her away from danger as much as he can. Sakiko is the only one around him that Kagewaki trusts to take his place during his absence on missions.
Likes: His belongings, alcohol and do whatever he wants.
Dislikes: If someone tries to steal from him and when Kyumo gives him orders that prevent him from being 'free'.
Hobbies: Stealing shiny things, drinking, sleeping and parkour.
Favorite Food(s): Watermelon, grilled chicken and grilled fish.
Biography:
Kagewaki grew up in the District 78 Inuzuri (戌吊, Howling Dog; Viz "Hanging Dog") at the South Rukongai. Having come to Soul Society with his father and mother, he does not remember their faces because they died when Kagewaki was very young. How he survived his childhood was by stealing food and water, but he really wasn't good at it and was usually caught. One day, after stealing a big watermelon a young Kagewaki was chased through the streets by this huge man that promised to kill him when he caught the kid. But to his rescue came an elderly lady, probably the oldest in their entire district and paid the angry man for the watermelon. And through that, she probably saved Kagewaki's life from being beaten to death over something so little. This older woman did not see a thief as she looked at the boy, instead she saw a hungry dirty street boy without a home. This simple thing she did created a bond between her and Kagewaki much like that between a grandchild and a grandmother. And for the time being, Kagewaki lived at her hideout, being fed by the women everyday. The young boy often complained about constantly getting chased and beaten by those he stole from on a daily basis. The older woman began to show signs of illness but tried to keep it from Kagewaki and realized that she did not have many years left. The thought of what would happen to the boy raised concern whether he would take care of himself when she died. It was at that moment she offered Kagewaki to teach him a way to survive that didn't cost anything. A life that Kagewaki actually had little experience in but not much luck in sadly, the life of a thief.
And for several years, the elderly lady trained Kagewaki in the art of stealing. She had the advantage of being old and few would suspect her to really be a thief. But in fact she was a very good thief, being able to steal money from pockets without the one being robbed noticing. In her youth, she lived as a thief and showed Kagewaki several places where she once hid, and these places eventually became Kagewaki's own hiding places. Everything from stealing small jewelry to money to weapons from the hands of people, Kagewaki learned from this woman. Even how the streets and alleys were connected almost like a labyrinth and this became his basis in the art of stealing. Every alley, every house and roof, Kagewaki knows inside and out. This knowledge of the surroundings meant that he was never caught again and could keep on stealing and leave some stuff on locations to get them later on. And after 4 years of training, the disease caught up with the older lady who just got sicker and sicker every day. She had nothing left to teach Kagewaki who sat by her side as she drew her last breath. But with the last breath, she told Kagewaki where all the treasures she stole in life were hidden.
The building that the woman and Kagewaki lived in became his home, hideout and the basement turned into a storehouse for everything that he has ever stolen. One day when Kagewaki was out on his usual round of stealing he caught sight of a wandering shinigami all alone while standing on a roof. Probably one that has been sent to keep eyes on the criminal district, but from what Kagewaki could see the man was afraid of his surroundings. A dangerous place where fear was a major weakness and that feeling was one the king of thieves himself has not felt for years. The lonely shinigami had something that did shine off the sun tied to his obi sash. It was an Asauchi (浅打, Shallow Hit) and Kagewaki became obsessed with it. He had to have it no matter what. With a jump from the roof of the house, he fell on a sun shade of cloth over a stand below and soon fell to the ground landing on his feet. Kagewaki made his way straight at the target and it took not long until he would pass the shinigami. On purpose he went straight into him almost like a tackle and with quick movements took Kagewaki the sword out from its sheath. Without even the shinigami noticing something had been taken and kept on walking into the crowd, vanishing out of sight with the blade hidden under his haori.
A few weeks pass and Kagewaki sits on his 'throne' in the building and has begun to stay in there more often. Because the stolen sword drew even more shinigami's to find the one that took it. Of course, Kagewaki could always leave the sword if he wanted to and continue to steal, but something caused him not to let go of it. And meanwhile, in solitude, he started reading old books from his 'grandmother' and learned about the energy that he have felt the whole life and its real name Reiryoku (霊力, Spiritual Power). Over time he has also understood a little about it and how it works, even proved to be able to use it to a small extent. Create a ball of the Reiryoku to light up his path and even be able to sense other spiritual beings but not on a very high level. The rumor about him had spread without his knowledge and more thieves tried to get hold of Kagewaki but not to fight or steal from him. They admired his untraceable thefts and how no one seems to remember his face. Although the thieves could not find Kagewaki, it was not difficult for him to find them. And he did, but not just any random thief, but the most skilled of thieves is what he was looking for. Kagewaki easily showed who he was by doing what thieves do, by stealing from the thieves he encountered. And it wasn't long before several thieves followed him, their number went up to 40 (41 with Kagewaki) of skilled thieves. And under Kagewaki's leadership, their area grew all the way from District 78 to the more rich and healthy District 46 at the South Rukongai. And nothing seemed to stop Kagewaki and his thieves from stealing everything they put their hands on.
For several years, the streets continued to become their playground while Kagewaki's wealth grew every day. A life of wealth and fame was something quite contrary to what the King of Thieves grew up with. But it became something he was almost obsessed with, his properties were no longer just treasures, even the thieves were his property. During all the years that the thieves kept following his orders, Kagewaki never stopped stealing from people because if he quit, the skills and years of training would be wasted. And when a thief was caught under him, it felt like someone stole from his treasures. Something that was never allowed and Kagewaki did not hesitate to take back what belonged to him, by stealing back the thief from those who caught the person. And to leave a sign that this was very forbidden, he cut off either a finger or the whole hand from the person. It didn't matter whether it was a woman or a man, stealing from Kagewaki was a terrible thing to expose yourself for. Unfortunately with such signs, traces were left which would ultimately be his first fall as a King.
While building up his group of thieves, Kagewaki always heard a voice shouting at him but never quite heard what the voice said. And while sitting on the throne counting coins, he tried to quiet the voice in his head but this did not help at all and instead the voice became louder and clearer. And when he flips a coin into the air, his mind moves away to another place like he was daydreaming and ends up in a vast and seemingly endless desert, covered with crimson sand cooked beneath a scorching sun. And he tried to wake up several times which looked like a nightmare for someone that lived as a king. Being all by himself again but in fact, he was not alone and a great shadow covered Kagewaki from the blazing sun, with a look up at what could block the light left a picture in his head of old. A man clad in gold armor bearing the menacing head of a jackal with glowing eyes of crimson. Standing nearly ten feet tall, his appearance bears an uncanny resemblance to Anubis, the god of the dead in egyptian lore. Kagewaki at first feels fear, but it ends quickly because he refuses to be afraid of anyone no matter what. Standing up to face the giant, but Kagewaki's legs had lost their strength to keep him up. Falling on knees in front of a large beast's feet with his head down facing the sand this time. Suddenly, Kagewaki feels something hot, even hotter than the heat from the sun that burned on his back a little while ago. My name is Mujintō and I assume you are the king? If you are the king of this world, I must be God. Kagewaki can't say anything but he tries to push himself up from the sand to again face the one calling himself God. I'm Kagewaki, the King of Thieves and I'm not going to kneel to anyone! The Zanpakutō Spirit Mujintō looks down at the man and he have placed the shikai form on the back of Kagewaki to hold him down. And a smile appears over Mujintō's lips as his partner begins to push up his body with the sword pressed against him. You have proven yourself anyway worthy to carry me Kagewaki, as god over this land, I will give you part of my power and do not forget this heat or my name. I promise we will meet again soon but until then continue to grow and become stronger. And Mujintō's sword begins to disintegrate into sand that will flow down to Kagewaki's right hand, before it rebuilds itself as the shikai form. Kagewaki does not hesitate for a second and grabs the handle of the sword and swings it up towards Mujintō but the spirit has disappeared from sight.
A couple of weeks after that incident, Kagewaki learned how to make shikai.that incident, Kagewaki learned how to activate the shikai of his Zanpakutō by calling on its name. And everything seems to be perfect, the thieves and the riches and also learned the basics of using shikai. But this day was not like any other for this was the day he would meet the man who would prove to be his rival in life Kyumo. Everything is normal in the building as the thieves and Kagewaki are in and music is played and everyone is eating well a perfect day would they all call it. Just when Kagewaki is about to start drinking a cup, the door flies in. And everything stops, the music and the eating and everyone's attention is drawn to the entrance where the door was.The light from the sun shines brightly from the entrance and suddenly would a man stand at the entrance, creating a shadow on the floor into the building. You were not easy to find but now I have you.. the king of thieves. Kagewaki looks surprised at the strange man and so does all the thieves in the building, but Kagewaki takes a deep sigh before lifting his hand. You may have found the building but you won't come out of here alive! Kagewaki answer and then he makes a gentle motion with his hand before all the thieves gets up from their tables and begins to pulls their knives and swords. But in a split second, all the thieves collapse on the tables unconscious and Kagewaki slowly starts to rise from his place and pulls his Zanpakutō. It's no idea trying to escape or fight give up and follow me. You and your thieves will be locked behind bars and not see the sun again. Kyumo say as he gives Kagewaki a emotionless lookå but the King of thieves never back down. I don't know how you could defeat my thieves, but I'm not going down so easily! Scorch, Mujintō" And when Kagewaki draws his Zanpakutō and calling its name the released form begin to shine quick as the Zanpakutō takes the shikai form. The event surprises Kyumo as Kagewaki is one of very few who learned Shikai without being a trained shinigami. And he actually lets Kagewaki get closer to him because with just the sight, Kyumo sees that Kagewaki is not fast enough. When Kagewaki is close enough to actually reach him, he makes use of Shunpo and disappears to then show up behind him. Your weaknesses are my goal and there are many.
Kagewaki does not understand what happened, how could he suddenly stand behind him without even moving. And Kagewaki is about to swing his sword back to try to counter Kyumo and suddenly he feels a blow to his neck that is sending. And Kagewaki is on his knees on the dirty floor and slowly turns to face the man, he understood that Kyumo was only playing with him and could kill him on the spot if he wanted to.A man like you is something really unusual, I think I have better use for you outside than in prison. Kyumo's word was actually a compliment and Kagewaki breathed a deep sigh before he turned around to look at him.
With a surprised look, Kagewaki looks at the sword that Kyumo has aimed at him. I'm going to give you two choices and if you answer too late I choose for you. 1. You come with me without a fight and do as I say. 2. You try to escape and I personally will throw you and all thieves behind bars. Kagewaki looks at all the thieves and all the treasures in the room and then he looks at Kyumo. I will come with you without a fight but then I want you to leave all the thieves alone. The sword disappears from his face and Kyumo starts walking towards the exit and Kagewaki slowly stands up and follows him. Without knowing where they are going but to protect his treasures the king does what he has to.
A few days pass and Kyumo has dropped Kagewaki at the Shinōreijutsuin (真央霊術院, Spiritual Arts Academy), sometimes called the Shinigami Academy. And because Captain of the 2nd Division himself took Kagewaki to the academy himself the man didn't need to pass the entrance exam and the teachers was told to teach him everything needed to know and do to become a good shinigami. Kagewaki proved to have a talent to learn quickly the four major Shinigami combat forms. The only thing that he showed very little development in was Kidō because that was nothing that interested him. He even saw no use for it because it was too flashy for his style. Kagewaki is after all a thief who does not want to be seen or heard. And since he had already learned shikai and using a unique style of swordplay that he learned from the street, he quickly became a little known for the style. Hakuda did he not think were much of a differed from ordinary hand to hand combat but he did learn how to use a few techniques that came into use later. And Hohō was what Kagewaki focused most of the time here for this something he really needed to learn. Kyumo surprised him with just speed and this was something that should not happen again according to Kagewaki. He spent almost all his time mastering Shunpo (瞬 歩, Flash Steps) but he felt that Kyumo was still on another level.Kyumo could then see how much Kagewaki had developed while he was there. The two students continue their match and their speed was probably the fastest of all the students but something stood out between the two. Kagewaki was not injured at all while the other suffered more damage for every second that passed. And a teacher would just call off the match but Kyumo stopped him.Let's see how this ends. The teacher had not even noticed that Kyumo had arrived but nodded in silence as the match continued. And it was a pity that Kagewaki was just playing around with his opponent but after a while both students stopped in front of each other. Neither of them said anything and both of them saw Kyumo watching their match. The opponent wanted to show off his skills for Kyumo and began to speak the incantation for the Hadō #31. Shakkahō. This created an opening for Kagewaki that suddenly disappeared from the opponent's field of view but Kyumo followed him with his gaze. Now Kagewaki did the same thing that Kyumo did to him and appeared behind the opponent. You're too slow And with a quick blow to the neck, his opponents fall down onto the ground unconscious. Kagewaki constantly looks at Kyumo and uses Shunpo to show up in front of him. I'm done here Kyumo slowly nods and turns with his back at Kagewaki before he say.Come And without saying anything, Kagewaki does as Kyumo says and both use Shunpo and leave the area.
After a while they arrive at the barracks of the 2nd division and Kyumo leads Kagewaki to a door and behind the door are several members of the fifth branch of the Onmitsukidō. The Inner Court Troop (裏廷隊, riteitai) and they welcome their Chief and Captain back. Once inside, Kyumo tells everyone who Kagewaki is with, but not about him being a thief. He also tells them that Kagewaki will be Corps Commander of the Inner Court Troops and the 5th seat of the 2nd division and they all moves their head down while they stand on one knee.Kagewaki looks over at Kyumo that would look back at him, giving the cold look as normal. When Kagewaki become familiar with all of them, Kyumo tells him once again to follow him and they leave the room in silence. Is this why you didn't throw me and my thieves into prison? To have me in your division and to take care of them? Kyumo looks at him and nods lightly.Exactly, you showed me from the beginning that you have leadership skills and honestly you could have become 3rd seat in my division but then you lose your freedom. I chose this seat because this gives you access to go in and out without having problems. You will learn over time what you need to do and your thieves' actions will be overlooked. You are my eyes and ears on the streets and I expect you to do as I say. Kagewaki looks towards Kyumo and nods, he has nothing to say and is happy that he and his thieves are allowed to go free.Knowing that if he does something wrong Kyumo will to do what he should have done from the beginning. The next few years, Kagewaki spends with the division and does his job as Corps Commander of the Inner Court Troops. But sometimes he is also sent back to his district to lead the group of thieves. Continue like nothing had happened but he always has to return to Kyumo to report if something will happen. (Will fix the spelling and grammar asap)
