Not unexpected, but the first to arrive, Oyama. Perhaps now more than ever, does he feel just as she has felt all her life. Trapped by another. Seemingly always at their mercy. Maybe more so for him than it is for her, nowadays. Her alter-ego did not show in her reiatsu as much as his counterpart did in his. Flooded by it. His own mixed with the Hollow, so much so that it became almost unrecognizable. For now, he completely conceals his presence, that part of him silenced.
“I see that you’re back, and looking as fit as ever. Tell me, are you a vizard now? And if so, how's that other half treating you?”
As if she knew he would return, and with that a witty compliment. No change in his expression as far as that goes, but he did look around inspecting his own physique. He said nothing, and with that she questioned whether he is a Vizard or not… A Vizard? The term, he has not learned of quite. This being the first time he has ever heard of it… Despite all the research he has done, he has never come across the term. Though, it held a ring to it and the way she said it, made it seem as though she knew about it. Of course. The path he has been forced upon, now has a name to stand by it.
Oyama aimed to pick his brain, though her attempts are subtle, but direct in her approach. Ashi only folded his arms over his chest, his eyes opened just slightly. The intensity in the room grows and so much so, that the feeling extends past the walls that surround them even now. Utter silence between them, she still expects an answer. His mouth opened, ready to speak upon the troubles his mind now holds. Every word would be filled with truth, no less no more than that.
"It's not exactly organized yet but. Most of the reports coming in have just been Hollow sightings in Karakura."
Katsuo chimed in quickly, allowing for the intensity to subside. The question to be diverted for the time being. A simple shift of his gaze towards Katsuo as his once meaningless dribble, turned to an informative report. This side of Katsuo he has seen a few times during his career, but now seemed to be a little… Different… Now his demeanor showed a bit more prominence. Little details that can push him in the right direction when it comes to leading the Squad. His eyes closed now, his gaze moving away beneath his eye-lids.
The end of his Zanpakuto presses into the wooden floor as his arms unravel themselves from their folded position. Immediately his body lifts from its leaning posture and his hands overlap as they settle at the top of the handle. His words are being processed, just as Katsuo begins to finish his report. Though he did not ask, he held much appreciation for it. Over all, it will make his next choice of words that much easier to say…
”Thank you, Katsuo..”
He looks behind him, reaching for the very report that he had just moments before looked over. His reiryoku channels through his fingertips as his reiatsu washed over the very paper in that very instant, hardening its surface, sharpening its edges for just a moment. With a mere flicking motion, he tossed the paper like a frisbee towards Katsuo. Easy to spot, easy to catch, he should have no trouble.
”Read that, and make sure the situation is handled. Make sure Oyama gets a chance to look over it as well. Coordinate. Devise a plan. The usual. As for your earlier question, Oyama.”
His eyelids noticeably move, his gaze, his attention turns to her entirely. Though she could not see his steel like pupils, only she for the moment can feel the smoldering intensity that radiates from him, even now.
”Yes, you are correct. The affliction is troublesome. I will manage.”
Just like that, the intensity is relieved once again. Whether she had been worried or not, he aimed to assure her that no harm would come to himself or anyone else in the vicinity. Of course, his counterpart will have a different story. He only seeks violence and blood-shed… His hand returned to the top of his other hand.
”This will be the last day stepping foot into this office. Into these barracks to put it simply. I will be transferring to Squad 5, as a request from Captain Oda himself. He and I were a part of the incident as you should already know. Underneath the tutelage of each other, we hope to gain control over this, inner-hollow. I need you both to hold this Squad stronger than you have been for the past two months. Run it, hone your skills to far greater levels than they are today, tomorrow, three weeks from, three years from now. Train any who join and protect Karakura Town and all who reside with your dying breath. That is the will of Squad 13.”
A heavy sigh exits, as his body seems to relax further. He hadn’t realized how tense he was until just now. He is glad to release, just a little at a time.
”I will miss the both of you… I hope to see you both grow and become the vision that I see for you two.”
Ever so slightly does his smile grow a few inches wider.
”Kats, you mentioned a picture, didn’t you?”

Step Step Step
Lieutenant Kyōraku roams the hall of the Research and Development Institute. He passes the many subordinates and colleagues that linger in the hall, that travel it — clearly a man on a mission. The whole time Nyūraku remains blissfully ignorant, his swirling bulging eyes ever plastered to the gruesome images before him.
Step Step Step
Closer now, much closer than before. Kurotsuchi mouth waters, the genius slightly salivating as he relives the moment in both memory and through the footage. To think that he would have such an opportunity, to be able to poke and prod shinigami affected by Hollowfication. How SPLENDID!!! Not only that, the procedure had (unfortunately) been a resounding success. Perhaps he would be granted a reward, nothing major. A mere sample or two from the Commander’s body would suffice, maybe the chance to sit in with Captain Nakamoto during one of Kagayaki’s check ups. A peek at his medical records as well shouldn’t be too much to ask for.
Finally, Nozamu journey meets its end — the Lieutenant enters the spacious space belonging to the Brainiac.
Code:
”Greetings and welcome, Lieutenant Kyōraku.”
The autonomous voice welcomes the red haired demon, simultaneously announcing his presence to the master of this space. Still, Nyūraku does nothing to turn and acknowledge his superior outside pausing the footage. Nozamu enters further into the laboratory, illuminated by only the massive holographic interface computer. As he approaches he observes the disfigured face of the Kurotsuchi, maneuvering himself towards the nearest sterile surface.
“Hollowfication as you know is the process of inserting a Hollow’s soul into a normal soul, breaking down the boundary between the two and trying to turn the original into something far more powerful. Thankfully the Aku Hachi Hakkō only caused an imperfect breakdown of the boundary, unlike Hōgyoku which is able to break down the boundary to the absolute molecular level, which is exactly why you were able to use the Vaccine originally created by Urahara Kisuke.”
Quite the lengthy opener, but enough to cause Kurotsuchi to turn and face the Lieutenant, just as he places a single document down. The space between them was significant enough, demanding Nyūraku needing to move to read the contents of the file.
He does not.
”I wasn’t able to highlight it on the way here as I was busy brainstorming, but if you look a little closer down here.”
Not deterred in the slightest, Nozamu continues on with the thoughts storming his mind. A single finger points to the page — no, a section of the page as Nyūraku’s tongue slinks from his mouth. Its tip stretches and touches his left eyeball as he twists his head clockwise.
”Quincy are able to be stabilized by using a Gigai made from a human soul that envelops any Shinigami who enters it and if either of us were to enter it we’d be between Shinigami and Human, allowing us to cancel out the Hollow that is attempting to infect the Quincy in question. As you most likely know also, this is a process that completely takes away the use of Shinigami powers and all that bad stuff, but unlike the previous vaccine we discussed, Kiskue was able to notice that there was an extremely strong reishi string binding the souls together.”
The Lieutenant takes a much needed pause, the length in which he had spoken along with his rate of speech were tell signs his thoughts were veering almost beyond his control, racing at terrible speeds. He was frantic, excited even. Clearly he believed himself on the cusp of something. His eyes glow a deep crimson, becoming rather pronounced in the dark space.
”Your inital reaction to stop the Soul Suicide in these Shinigami was indeed the first step in curing them of their inner hollows, yet there has only been one species who was known to seperate soul from body, hollows; the few I am showing you now are the only ones confirmed have actually forcibly extracted a living spirit from their own body. If we were able to recreate this exact same ability that the Hollows use, I believe that we would not only be able to modify it to be far more precise in extracting the Hollow soul from the original soul, but also put it into a body that can either be experimented upon by yourself or exterminated.”
As he finishes, Nyūraku’s tongue at this point had moved from his left eyeball and was already grazing the right eye with its tip. He pauses and finds that Nozamu doesn’t speak any further.
”Oh, done already?”

”Could it be malnutrition? Perhaps sleep deprivation...maybe...a tumor?”
His tongue retreats into his mouth as he begins to mutter to himself. He shuffles over towards the table where Nozamu stands, standing next to his mentally afflicted colleague. Index finger and thumb pick up the document as if handling a piece of used tissue. He glances at the contents, including the highlighted portions, then turns the page looking on the back in casual inspection. He sighs before placing it back down.
”Computer, be a dear and open up the library.”
7157dd9edfb605e20c250f93ebedffe0.png

Hundreds, upon thousands upon millions of billions of trillions of small tiny glowing spheres slowly bleed into the lab before coalescing into a single massive sphere that hovers over the ground, slowly spinning.
With a wave of his hand what’s perceived as a single file is dragged from the massive glowing globe. It splits into two — one image taking the shape of a human body, the other...a hollow.
”As we know from the annals of history, former Captain of the Twelfth Division and President of the Research and Development Institute developed the Hōgyoku is known to be able to help break the boundary between Hollow and Shinigami allowing the fusion. It is this method which he used to save the lives of his former subordinate and colleagues.”
He steps away from Nozamu, approaching the two hovering images. Stares dreamily as he becomes enamored in thought. It lasts only for a moment.
”Sosuke Aizen had used a rather crude method that involved sacrificing the souls of countless shinigami souls. The Aku Hachi Hakkō...this...festering Pot, is not unlike that strange creature conjured up by Sosuke. Its corruption ensures the reiatsu inside acts much like a poison, infecting the soul of those affected...inflicting them with Hollowfication.”
He turns to face his would be superior. He cocks his head from one side to the other.
”The reason Quincy could never become part Hollow, is because Hollows are inherently the antithesis to Quincy. It is genetically and spiritually impossible for the two to coexist. The reason the Vaccine worked was because the Souls had not completely devolved into a Hollow, and Soul Suicide had not occured. This Vaccine, created by yours truly by the way...shifted the internal battle. The Shinigami’s soul resisted the Hollow as the Hollow sought to devour and overtake the Shinigami’s soul. Much like how white blood cells help in fighting infection and disease, the Quincy Vaccine was injected into our three specimens to combat its natural enemy...the hollow, weakening it enough to allow the Shinigami souls to suppress its will, smothering it until the Hollowfication process was ultimately forced to halt. Preventing them from completely turning into Hollows.”
As he speaks the two images attempt to merge, reenacting his words a third glowing image appearing in the form of an arrow, piercing the human shape and passing through to the Hollow’s causing its form to diminish in color and size.
”The stabilization used by Kisuke Urahara was made to save a Quincy, a being who under normal circumstances would ultimately die once being infected by a Hollow. As I said, it is genetically impossible for them to coexist with one unlike Shinigami. Kisuke’s process was a band aid, a temporary fix. It was made to exponentially slow the process, it didn’t halt it completely. If you attempt to reenact the method, placing the shinigami into those Gigai will indeed turn them into a cross between human and shinigami but have you forgotten…”
His gaze for a moment intensifies.
”Kurosaki Ichigo was also at one point...a cross between Human and Shinigami. Though he is an exceptional case we can at least deduce somewhat that...the human body will NOT combat the Hollow or Hollowfication. If hollows can infect humans who are their natural prey, and give birth to what we know as Fullbringers...and if they can infect Shinigami causing them to become Vizards...then making a Shinigami a cross between two species who have historically been affected by Hollows will hardly be of any assistance in mitigating or diminishing the specimen’s ailments!”
6a4f02c716cedf938d0ca39e18974e0f.png

”Furthermore eliminating the powers of the shinigami in such a state, is the same as weakening them, placing them into further risk of having their souls deteriorated! Hollows are able to extract souls indeed, and while the ability may be studied and potentially replicated there comes several risks. The hollow within them will not simply stand by and allow itself to be removed. As time goes on its soul will mix and blend with the soul of its host and subsequently..their zanpakuto. We run the risk of causing harm to the original soul or even the spirit born of the soul of its Master. Damage and harm which could potentially be irreparable!”
Kurotsuchi pauses, his eyes widen, then roll away from one another.
”Hmm, what would happen? How much harm can a soul endure before it loses memory of its shape, its form? By interfering we would undoubtedly be interfering with the connection between shinigami and zanpakuto...if the soul is substantially damaged will the zanpakuto cease to recognize this damaged soul as its master? Will it have any harmful effects on the spirit itself? If the spirit is born from the soul then by harming the source of its birth does that harm reflect somehow physically upon the spirit as well?”
He goes off on his tangent, rambling on as he completely forgets that he was just speaking with Nozamu, becoming lost in thought, theories and conjectures. His tongue begins to snake out, inching its way toward his right eyeball again..

She had walked in just in time to see Katsuo take his seat in front of the captains desk, dropping down a set of paper work that needed to be organized. She was wondering where some of the paper work went off, but she was to say the least glad it was done, something to take off her to do list for today. While her smile still persisted during this small reunion.
“That's kinda a weird question coming from you, Oya. How is Furia treating you? I imagine it's almost the same for Ara.”
Her head tilted as she looked towards Katsuo, such hostility, but she understood what he was trying to point at. Though he failed to understand that she knew what it was like to have someone just waiting to take control at any moment.
“Bored, She’s bored Katsuo. I think she was expecting some form of action in the past two months but… Paper work so she allowed me to take full control again.”
She was direct with him for a reason, He didn’t understand what it was like to have a constant fight for control, and when you do get rest, you still have to be on guard all the time; but she understood that if Furia took control she was still Shinigami, she can truly fight back. As for Arashi? That image of him was burned into her memory, but it wasn’t him at the same time.
Illustration531.png

That mask that had the smile was unsettling to her. Something she never wanted to see, his smile was a bit creepy to her, but that mask… It was something else entirely to her. It was a corrupted version of his smile, it was sinister and if she ever saw it again, it would be too soon. She allowed herself to enter deep into her thoughts once more where she tuned out Katsuo, but snapped out of her thoughts when he suggested something, causing her to turn and look him before blinking.
“I recommend we find out exactly what it is they are doing first, and remind them that without Shinigami to purify the Hollow souls, the world will fall into imbalance. Remind them that their powers don't Purify the hollow soul, that it completely destroys it.”
Then she felt something, that would send chills down her spine, before she finally turned to look at Arashi once more, his attention was on her for that moment. She couldn’t explain the feeling she had right now, but it wasn’t exactly right.
“Yes, you are correct. The affliction is troublesome. I will manage.”
And as quickly as it came it was gone, by his short response, for that moment she had nodded and returned to her smile, She had no advice to give him, but would try her best to help him out if she had any questions. She was fully prepared for this portion but what was to come out would cause her to break her smile, and look at him with disbelief.
“This will be the last day stepping foot into this office. Into these barracks to put it simply. I will be transferring to Squad 5, as a request from Captain Oda himself. He and I were a part of the incident as you should already know. Underneath the tutelage of each other, we hope to gain control over this, inner-hollow. Run it, hone your skills to far greater levels than they are today, tomorrow, three weeks from, three years from now. Train any who join and protect Karakura Town and all who reside with your dying breath. That is the will of Squad 13.”
The shoes that needed to be filled were big, but she understood that the opportunity was there, and if she was in his shoes, she would take that opportunity as well, along with training on how to deal with a hollowfied being stuck inside their body. It was also a great way to keep each other in check, or at least that’s how she viewed it. She only wished them the best, and so her smile returned by the time he mentioned that he would miss them both. Its all she could do is smile, but once a picture was mention, she again blinked, and thought, it was a great way to keep a good memory, and a great departing gift.
“A picture would be wonderful to have, but we need a camera man!”
The last little bit she yelled out, as surely there were other members of 13th eves dropping, she didn’t sense em, but she knew that someone was around the corner trying to eavesdrop, to which someone did stumbe out in view. Without saying a word she motioned the member to come forward to which they did, her head shook and she had a bit of a laugh before tossing them her phone, before taking the front center since she was the shortest of the two.
“Ready when you are!”
For now she wouldn’t suggest anything, this was meant to be a happy moment, one to be captured and held onto, and there she stood with her smile, just waiting for Arashi and Katsuo to get in postion.

Katsuo caught the report with delicate ease, negating Arashi's Reiatsu around it with his own before snatching it from the air, then taking the time to reading it. It wasn't exactly great news. It seems as though that training session with Yurui Oda might have to be postponed until, or If and when Katsuo returns from this threat. There was no way he'd leave his squad mates to face something like this alone, what kind of Oda would he be if he did?
"Respond immediately! Hollow activity located in Karakura Town. Adjucha level threat. Please be advised and proceed with the utmost caution in your approach. Directed to, Squad 13."
Dotted with the Squad thirteen insignia, this meant it was up to them to annihilate this threat as quickly as possible.
"Oya, Who's on duty now?!"
He said, looking a bit worried. Oya was already heading outside for that Picture she wanted, leaving Katsuo to sigh, then smile at her, pulling the report down for a moment to get into the frame with her. He smiled and chuckled wrapping his arm around her neck for a grapple hug, and waving Arashi to come in to the picture.
During this he thought about sending a soul butterfly to his brother, and to his uncle Yurui. It seemed as though that training session would have to wait. They would forgive him though, no worries. Every Oda goes above and beyond the call of duty. After the Photo he would.give the report to Oyama for her to read.
"Looks like we're on Duty, no breaks just yet. Hope you're not tired."
He'd then touch a soul butterfly to relay his message to Yurui and Tenzen.
"Going on Active Duty to Karakura, Classified reason, will be back soon.
If he wasn't, they wouldn't wait up. Katsuo knew that. He would have to fight this Adjucha level hollow to the death and do his duty like a good soldier. Of course he was afraid, but Oya, Division thirteen, all of Karakura meant more than his own life to him. This was it. This was a moment to prove his worth.

Memorable. A moment to live longer in the depths of his mind. Even the darkness that his Inner Hollow cascades over his inner world would feel the strength that this moment held. Sickening to him, but breath of genuine happiness for Arashi. He must enjoy the little things, now more than ever. This small group picture is one of them… So he positioned himself accordingly, taking the right side of Oyama who was jokingly grabbed by Katsuo. Though fleeting, the moment is saved within the flash of the camera. A wonderful photo it will be and who knew they had such a splendid photographer in Squad 13…
Div13R.png

Like all things, it passes on. The report has not been forgotten or lost. Quick to take action, he would remove himself and retreat to a place behind the desk. Not out of sight, however. Leaving Katsuo and Oyama to their own devices. With the paperwork sorted, he made sure to grab whatever material things he needed to take with him. Similar to when he checked before, there was really nothing, but himself and Hoshizora to leave with. It became that simple… But the two will not venture off without hearing a few more words from him.
”Katsuo…”
”Oyama…”

There is depth to the call of their names. Their attention is demanded. Their very options of leaving before he could finish speaking, seemingly stripped from them. His words would become a blade. Edged to every syllable. The blade will be felt among their very spirit.
”When you take on the Hollow. Do not hesitate... Do not think twice... Do not make the same mistake I did when I fought against Sword Eater. These Hollows are unpredictable, that is what makes them extremely dangerous. Expect and prepare for the worst case scenario. The moment you get the chance, end it. No remorse, no mercy…”
Just for a moment, did his reiatsu flare up. Just for that moment, his Inner Hollow shows within the left side of his eyes. It slips through, leaks into the atmosphere and for that instantaneous moment Katsuo and Oyama can find their bodies lowered by the sudden increase in pressure. It ceased just as quick as it came, his left hand moving quickly to cover his left eye.
Slips like these, he needed to mend and suppress. It's what his counterpart is looking for. It is exactly what he needed to push through, to break the mental wall that Arashi has built. He turned away immediately once the occurrence passed on. However, his Zanpakuto manifests to a being that only he can see. Hoshizora stands at his side, with a hand atop his shoulder.
”I got you, Arashi. This is new for me as well. We will manage together.”
A glance over where his smile returns.
”Thank you, Hoshizora.”
His hand fell to his side again as his posture straightened more.
”DISMISSED.”
His back remained turned to both of them and the moment they took their leave, he’d turn around to face the organized stacks of paper. He contemplates the choice he is making. Should he really leave? Is this the best way to combat his affliction? His eyes opened more than they usually would and he sighed heavily.
”Time to go..”
His Zanpakuto within the palm of his hand, grasped tightly. He moves with a moderate pace and as he exits, the door closes by his hand. This being the very last time he will ever lay a hand upon them. A pause is noticeable. Still he contemplates his decision, but with every step he takes now, that contemplation slowly vanishes.
