BOOM.
For what seemed like an eternity there was silence for Jinnosuke’s disabled self. A calm that would give him plenty of time to feel every ounce of the repercussions begotten from his intensive training. Each involuntary bodily twitch would no doubt harshly remind him of how close he’s come to possibly ruining his body for the remainder of his life. Now that tranquility was being disturbed by the sound of something big approaching.
BOOM.
As it grew closer, the ground below the cot he was lying on began to quiver as if even the floorboards feared whatever was headed for him. A few thuds and thunks after that indicated IT was much nearer than it had been before. Right outside the doors, a few voices could be heard clearly.
“ A-ah! L-Lieutenant Hageshi!”
“Where is he.” Her voice sounded like a trumpet, alerting all in the vicinity to her presence if her broiling spiritual power did not. It was a tone that Jinnosuke would be intimately familiar with considering how many times she had been the one to put the man back together after he pushed himself too far.
“In there..”
Then there was silence again. An eerie serenity that seemed to mute the world which surrounded him. There was only one way to describe the sensation that came from this. The calm before the storm.
CLACK--RNCH
The doorway flew off it’s hinges as it slid alarmingly fast. It remained in place for only a moment before clattering to the ground loudly. There she stood and wasted no time approaching the broken fool. Rubble and debris left over from her unorthodox manner of seeking him out fluttered off her shoulders as she stomped along.
“ Look at the mess ya got yourself into again dumbass.”
Cold words left her lips first just as she came to a stop only a foot away from his bedside. One look at him and she could tell that this time, Jinnosuke had severely brutalized himself beyond the repair that any other physician but herself and the kid could provide. Having said that, it also appeared there was a little more to it than that. Omoni glowered down at Jinnosuke and while she loomed above, she could tell that he had undergone more than critical injury. The man had a different essence to him. Like he had come face to face with some demons, like he had grown exceptionally regardless of the fact he was battered and immobilized. Briefly, Hageshi wondered if just maybe Jinnosuke had attained Bankai. It is the ultimate technique of a Shinigami and their Zanpakuto and as far as she knew, To achieve Bankai, a Shinigami had to train upward of ten years to both subjugate and materialize their Zanpakutō spirit in the real world. The spirit learns Bankai at the same moment as its Shinigami wielder, but it could also withhold power from its Shinigami if it deemed them to be unworthy. Although she did not know why, this was the case for Omoni. If she asked Namakizu about it, the grumpy empress changed the subject or did something to avoid speaking about it further. Besides being granted her power, Omoni usually decided not to bother the volatile spirit until she needed her so naturally, the woman with as little patience as Namakizu always opted to put it out of her mind after that.
It had been a good while since the lieutenants had seen one another and if he had made the mistake of assuming there to be a warm reunion then he was going to be disappointed. The scolding would not stop there. Hageshi was definitely being a terrible hypocrite by scolding Jinnosuke as there had been more times than not that she didn’t think before throwing herself into the fire so to speak. In fact, it was common practice for her to put herself directly into the line of fire. If she was disappointed about anything it was that he had let whatever he dealt with leave him in such a state of disrepair. Warrior to warrior.
“Look at what you did. Just look. Is this how you will rise above us all?!”
